As I said in my profile, I used to be a non-gainer, but those skinny years are behind me now. I used to doubt I'd ever weigh more than 180, now I dream of getting back to there from north of 210. Mostly, I care about longevity, energy and a sense of well-being, and I hope to share those desires with people here. I'll feel especially like celebrating whenever any of us discovers both that they've lost weight and are feeling more energetic and healthy. That rocks!

That said, I'm now at an age when weight management has to be at the forefront of my considerations in fitness. I used to be able to concentrate on other things, and let the subcutaneous fat take care of itself. Now, unless I combine calorie awareness with fitness, I'll eat to the point of holding onto the excess fat even when I'm getting stronger, with more endurance and better flexibility. Weight management has to become an actual conscious goal.

I've been off and on myfitnesspal several times. This time, I want to stick with it, so I know I need to do something differently. The "differently" is going to be my seeking out friends and connections in the community here. Feel free to seek me out too! I look forward to getting to know folks, and getting back to a healthy weight.

Welcome! I'm sitting one seat ahead of you in the very same boat... "Oh Rob, I don't know how you can eat so much and never gain weight." and then POOF, holy crap, I'm 45 pounds higher than I was in college! But MFP has helped me as I've been building the habit of exercising, and keeping track of what I'm eating -- and my MFPals have been a big help in that transformation.

I'll send you a friend request. Us 40-something guys should stick together!

Good luck in your new journey, you can do this!
