I am very frustrated because my daughter went in for a physical a month ago. Of course I had to hear that her BMI was too high BUT they also said my son's BMI was too high also. He is a stick and to think they by their standards he is on the low end of obese is crazy. They brought in all this info for me and made appointment for me to come back in a month. They told her to cut out soft drinks, juices, etc. when we went back they told us to only eat out only once a week. Then today they call to tell me they want her to go to a lipid clinic and she needs to get an hour of exercise a day. Here is the deal she was only allowed one drink a day before they asked us to change and after the month of taking that one a day away - no changes. We are broke- we would love to go out to eat once a week even it was fast food but this doesn't happen in our household. She goes to swimming on Monday and basketball on Wed, Fri., and Sat. Before basketball she was on two softball teams. Everyday she is outside and active because we live in the country, I home school and we have a nursery they play at all the time. On top of all these she has suffered from chronic constipation for years. She takes 2 doses of miralax a day and milk of magnesium... do they think that this could contribute in any way to her problems. Both of my kids eat more veggies than any other kids I know. We get to meet with a nutritionist at this clinic. I just pray that at the tender age of 9 they do not have my sweet child countingcalories ...aaarrghhh!!

I can just feel the Dr.'s looking at their obese mom and thinking how unhealthy these kids must be....

  • Second opinion!
I would consult another doctor or ask for a referral to a nutritionist. Trust your mom instincts :)

Wow, have an issue with trhe charts telling you is you are so tall and your weight is this you are obese. My brother is a power lifter, 6' 2" weights slightly over 350 pounds. He is considered morbidly obese by insurance and medical standards. That being said you stated how active your daughter is get a second opinion, ask her how she feels. I am obeses but have always been active {swam through High School, played Football, Hike}.

Awww, hon...I am so sorry. First of all, I met your son and you are right - he's a stick!! Trust your gut, and I completely agree - get a second opinion!! You know my heart, and I know yours. Protect her from the path you & I went down of being forced to think we were fat way too early. She shouldn't even have that on her radar screen!!
