I don't know enough about this diet, but this headline caught my eye this evening...

Once again our government steps in to tell us what we can or cannot do to our bodies LOL

Of course they are illegal. They have absolutely zero medical connection with weight loss. Any one who is trying to sell them as a weight loss aid is basically committing fraud. Old news, and a non-issue. HCG is perfectly legal for it's intended purpose, but weight loss is not it's intended purpose, and is completely ineffective as a weight loss aid anyway. It's just a scam.

Like it or not, the government is actually thinking clearly here. That diet is DANGEROUS. You can not sustain yourself for the rest of your life in a healthy manner on 500 calories a day. And why would anyone think that Human Chorionic Gonadotropin would make them lose weight, when it hasn't had that affect on the people who have it naturally in their system...pregnant women. Shoot, if being pregnant made women LOSE weight, I bet half of the females' discussions on here would be null and void.

I think it should be taken off the market like Phen Fen (or however it was spelled).

I don't have the same government as you, and know nothing about the FDA, but they way I read it, banning over-the-counter sales of an unregulated product that apparently does not have good scientific merit and could be dangerous if not used correctly sounds like a mighty good idea to me!

Edited to add: Honestly, I think you would be in more trouble if you had no government regulation of "what you put into your body".

I wasn't aware that you were only allowed 500 calories a day on top of the substance, sheesh.

Anyone can lose weight eating that little LOL

I can't imagine you are required to stay that low forever though, hopefully just until you hit your goal, if you live that long.

I think its more the super low calorie diet but then again I do know a few who took off weight and kept it off. I personally wouldn't try it. I had an unplanned rapid loss of weight from basically low calorie consumption not really by choice had no appetite from stress and emotional crisis then also financial strain I was more concerned with my daughter eating enough. Thankfully that time period didn't last long but it paid a huge toll on my gall bladder.

I am sorry about your Gall bladder

I did, lost the weight on HCG and kept it off. It is a very difficult and complicated diet, not any one can do it. Would only recommend it if the person was looking in to surgery for instance. You still have to learn healthy habits, and eat and work out like crazy between rounds.

Eh I'm not a big fan of big government, however, the FDA serves a decent purpose for the most part and only banned OTC HCG - which makes sense to me b/c if you're going to starve yourself then throw drugs into your body it should be under a doctors supervision.

If you have to work out like crazy to keep the weight off between rounds, THAT is what's keeping the weight off -- NOT the HCG

People who want to eat only 500 calories a day and starve to lose weight still have the ability to do it.

They just won't be able to buy scam HCG products that make false claims to go with their starvation diet.

Any doctor that tells people to go on a 500 calorie diet with ANY form of HCG for weight loss should lose their license to practice medicine. If I knew of any local doctors that pushed this approach, I would turn them into the state medical board.
