it's approaching quickly.
family get togethers with squares, cookies, pop, chips - you name it.

i'm nervous about dealing with this.
i love holiday treats and i don't agree with deprivation BUT...
i'm not a 'just one' type of person.
also, i have plans to do some baking myself for gift giving.
i am scared i will eat too much of what i make.

any advice would be appreciated.

Do you have someone in the house that you can keep in the kitchen with you while you are baking your goodies? I have found that if there is someone there to help me "just say no" while I am baking, then I don't eat it myself.

As far as the get togethers, maybe suggest to your family that there be some healthy options as well. I did this at Thanksgiving. I had a plate full of veggies and a little bit of some healthy dip like spiced hummus on my plate before I put anything else there that I shouldn't have as much of. That way I was more able to fill up my stomach before having the treats, but I still was able to have some. I still made room, I just made sure that I had other healthy choices along with it.

Also, you could save up your calories those days for the get togethers. I know some people don't like that idea because it could possibly lead to a binge, but sometimes it really works well for me. If I have 1550 calories alloted for the day, but the get together is at night, I basically will just nibble on little things all day so that I have at least 1000 or more calories left to have whatever I want.

Another thing to keep in mind is that if you have been working hard at eating right and working out all week long, one get together on Friday or Saturday night will NOT negate all that hard work. Just keep plugging along! No need to punish yourself for enjoying the holidays.

I always try to bring something to share when i go to peoples houses that way i know that there is going to be something that i can eat and plus it's always nice to bring something as a guest anyway.
Even if its a sit down meal at a friends house bring a fruit platter that way when it comes time for desert you wont have to worry about being tempted by something unhealthy.
Try http://chocolatecoveredkatie.com/ for great sweet treats that are still good for your body

I have always loved baking goodies to give away at this time too. Last year, I decided to do something different and made meat rubs instead that they can use on all kinds of meats to grill or bake and stay healthy. This year I'm thinking of doing pakcets of mulling spices for apple cider and such. I think they'll be a big hit, and I don't get tempted myself. I have recipes if you want.

Try not to worry about it, you'll cause extra stress and that may make you more likely to overeat. Have what you want, but try not to stuff yourself.

I ate tons at Thanksgiving. Over 4 days I ate most of the turkey, nearly an entire package of Hawaiian rolls (all but 2!), 4 pieces of pie, 2 pieces of cheesecake, 3 pieces of cake...

...and I only gained .4 of a pound.

Lol I posted something practically identical yesterday!! Im planning to avoid majority of sweet items, as it results to binging for me. Im not one of the people who can have everything in moderation unfortunately. However I will have Christmas Day itself as a "Cheat day". Up until Christmas Im being quite strict with myself. The problem is I worry it will roll onto the following day, and the following day!!

when I go to holiday parties, I try to focus on the other activities (i.e. socializing and catching up with others). when I walk past the cookies (my weakness) I remind myself that I can have a cookie some other time - when I'm skinny and have extra calories to use!! :)
