A brief, yet moving tribute from The Washington Times: http://youtu.be/8BfKfDGRzbg
My grandfather left behind a pregnant wife and small daughter when he was drafted in WWII. He was in Hawaii, preparing to invade Tokyo when the Japanese surrendered. His letters home from post-war Japan have been an inspiration to the entire family, with many lessons in love and tolerance, as his love for the Japanese people grew and grew during his time helping with clean-up and rebuilding efforts. I'm grateful for his service and the blessing it was to have him return home.
Thank you, to everyone that has worn the uniform, protecting my freedoms and those of my loved ones.

My grandfather was in the Navy and was stationed in Pearl Harbor during WWII, he passed away a few years ago!
Thanks to all our troops!!!!0 -
My grandfather was an airplane mechanic during the war. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor when it was attacked and was hit by an airplane wing. I used to love hearing him tell stories. My grandmother and I went to Hawaii after my grandfather died and took the tour and saw all the sunken ships. It was eerie and surreal.
My father, step-father, husband, uncle, grandmother and grandfather have all served.
I am a proud Navy brat and am thankful to all who have served and sacrificed for my family's and my freedom.0 -

Thanks for posting this. My grandfather was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He was in the Army and stationed at Pearl Harbor when it was attacked. He just passed away two years ago. I never heard many stories from him but I was proud of his service. My father also served in the Navy as did I. Thank you to all who have served and continue to serve.0

Well put EEG...and food for thought. Being this is the 70th anniversary, and the last to be commerated by the Suvivors, why is it that President Obama is NOT laying the wreath?0 -
Excellent thread! I agree completely!!! Thank you to my father-in-law, my husband and our good friend Scott Erhgott who recently deployed to Iraq and is currently in Kuwait waiting to come home!
Thank you to all the brave men and women who sacrifice so much for us! I do wish people would say thank you more often to service members when they see them on the street.

I'm a proud Navy veteran, and I'm so grateful for those who sacrificed everything on that Sunday morning.
I've had the honor to visit the USS Arizona memorial several times, and it is one of the most moving places that I have ever been in my life. The fact that you can still see oil leaking up is eerie.
I'm honored to actually be one of the voices in the recording of the Navy Hymn playing on the memorial, recorded during my time in the Naval Academy Men's Glee Club.
I'll never forget.0 -

Thank you for all who have/do/will serve in our armed forces.0 -
A heartfelt thank you to those past and present who have served in our Armed Forces. If it wasn't for your sacrifices, we wouldn't be who we are today.
Thank you.0 -
Thinking of my childhood neighbor today, my surrogate grandfather. He taught me how to fix anything that could ever break in a house, he taught me how to catch toads, most importantly he taught me patience. He was at Pearl Harbor for the attack, a young man of 17 (he lied to get into the Navy, he so badly wanted to serve); after the attack he was hospitalized (in the maternity ward, because there simply was no room elsewhere) before being shipped off to fight in the Pacific. He is a wonderful man, and I am so grateful for his service to our country.0

And thank you to all the men and women and their families who have and do sacrifice so much. Be it their lives, or years.
This is a huge thing and it's not lost on me.0 -
My grandfather was stationed at Pearl Harbor in the winter of 1941. His ship was out on manuvers, and was therefore one of the ships spared that day. My mother and grandmother were directly across the street watching it all. They had to flee the city and live in the mountains for a while because they thought the Japanese would flat out invade. They were issued gas masks and other items to prepare for the possiblity of invasion. She missed most of the 5th grade because they closed the schools for the rest of the school year. What she remembers most were the sounds and smells coming from the explosions. And of course as a child she remembers later being out of school and sneaking through barbed wire to get to the beach.
I used to take my mom to school when studied the bombing of Pearl Harbor. At 80 she still remembers the day vividly.0 -
Here Here!! This was a great post and so important to recognize and remember!0
