It's a journey...

... and I'm about one third of the way to my ideal weight, but this is my first time reading the message boards. Many of you have put some great advise and tips out there - thanks!
I was in the best shape of my life May 2009. A series of injuries, losing focus on eating/drinking right and ultimately surgery to fix the injuries (torn rotator cuff & torn bicep) set me back a long way. I'm now nearly 1/3 of the way back to my ideal weight/shape but find that I can always learn from others that are on this journey of health & wellness.
Are there any others out there that gained weight to do injury/surgery? How are you progressing on your journey to fitness?
I've struggled with weight at several times in my life. This time it was an injury, but I've also gained weight due to careless eating/drinking, depression and I'm sure other reasons I'm not thinking of right now.
I'd love to hear from as many as care to reply (or friend) to me. One thing I know about this journey... there is no such thing as too many friends or too much support.
Best of luck to everyone and look forward to hearing from you.
MJ

I have a bad back and I think that I use it as an excuse not to do things, like work out. I've changed my mindset that maybe if I lost some weight my back wouldn't hurt as much. I do know that I will always have back pain, but a strong core and being centered along with the weight loss will keep me from getting worse and hopefully get better.0

Hey! I'm here because I moved from the country to the city, and my eating habits didn't change. Funny how eating half a dozen donuts wouldn't add a pound (on top of the healthy meals) when i was super active, walking 2 hours a night in the acreage, canoeing in the middle of the night under the moon, swimming, cycling... hiking and caving, to get to the nearest "convenience store" at that time was a 8km return trip by bike on the abandoned railbed, so going there for a bag of chips and back more than burned what was being eaten.
I kept the eating habits and moved into the city where the store was right around the corner and guess what... balloon!
It IS a journey to get the eating habits under control, and to get back into the activity level I previously had. So easy in the city to be "busy" but not get anything done...0
