Any pescetarians here?

Options
I am thinking seriously about switching to a diet of fish, shellfish, vegetables, fruit, nuts, grains and beans, and also eggs and dairy. I'm not a big fan of beef, pork or poultry, so i think it would be easy for me to follow, except that my family eats all those things and I don't want to cook two dinners. I'm thinking I could go meatless at dinnertime. Basically I'm interested if any others here live this lifestyle and possibly sharing recipes.

I eat pescetarian most of the time, and will occasionally have chicken or turkey. There's a great meatless ground substitute you can try for things like lasagna, and we'll substitute beans for meat in things like chili or burritos, etc. If you're looking for a quick and easy fish dish, try the Morey's Fish Creations. They're relatively low in sodium and not bad in fat or calories, either.

I have some great vegetarian recipes. Here's one for paella: http://recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-detail.asp?recipe=266288 and one for black bean enchiladas: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/black-bean-and-rice-enchiladas/detail.aspx An easy way to look at it is, "What can I put in this dish instead of meat?" My husband definitely likes a good steak, but I can't remember the last time we've cooked anything with red meat and he doesn't miss it. As long as you substitute something filling for the meat, your family should be fine (after a transitional period). Best of all, you can cook most of the recipes you already know--just tweak them to fit your preferred diet, and you're good to go!

Thanks for your response. Those recipes sound great. I sometimes will sub in Boca crumbles for chili and lasagna and things like that, also sometimes beans and boca in sloppy joes. They eat them, and like it. No complaints. I don't really expect them to go meatless. I often just skip the meat at dinner and it's not issue for me. I'd like to help my DH lose some weight this way and save some money while I'm at it. However, this week I splurged on some sockeye and tonight we're having salmon burgers, YUM!!!

Please note that I said "I eat pescetarian most of the time," not "I am pescetarian." I do eat poultry from time to time, but it's pretty rare.

OP - Oh, nom! re: Boca crumbles. Salmon burgers sound amazing, too. :)

Seriously didn't know there was a word for it. That's pretty much how my diet has been shifting but only b/c I won't eat non-organic beef, pork or poultry.

    However, I love venison....mmmm....

Thanks for the mercury reminder. I can't afford that much fish and seafood anyway:cry: , wish I could. I mostly eat local, wild caught and ones form the lowest mercury list. I'm eating vegetarian most of the time now.
