Anyone else changing their goals for the holidays??

I'm changing my goal to 1lb a week for the next few weeks because I know I am not going to be able to keep up my current calorie intake or workouts over the holidays. I'm not planning on going crazy but I want to enjoy myself and I don't want to set a goal that is to hard to sustain as 'failure' can often be an excuse to fall of the wagon completely - anyone one else changing their goals??

Changing them in my head. I'm set to .5 lb a week and just want to maintain through the holidays. If I don't lose anything at all but also don't gain, I'll be thrilled.

    Yes....

I am currently in a surplus and lifting a lot. Heading out of town over the holidays, where I won't be working out as heavily and I will be surrounded by good food. So I am going to attempt to just maintain. I probably won't be tracking much, so it will have to be done intuitively.

I will not change my settings on MFP but yeah mentally I'll be happy if I'm close to maintenance. I'll probably go a little over maintenance but I tend to have to chase my kids around a lot more when we're out of town since family doesn't have their homes child-proofed, so if I go a little over I'll just hope I'm burning it off keeping up with the kids. LOL

Yes, but not solely for the purpose of the holidays; more so because I'm less then 2lb away from goal, but also a little because I want to enjoy the holiday yummies with a little more wiggle room... I'm eating only about 50 cals below maintenance and plan to keep this up until I reach my goal.. even if it takes me 2 months lol.
  • I am going to drop to the maintenance setting for the 3-4 days I am at my parents for the holidays. I will probably do the same for the weekend of New Years, as I am not accustomed to drinking much anymore but will probably indulge a bit then!! :drinker:

    Me too!
  • I'm keeping my goals the same, but not beating myself up too much if I have bad days. It's a bit hard to keep to 1200 calories a day at this time of year when there are so many parties to attend with not much in the way of healthy options.
  • Changed mine to 1lb a week today actually. 'Tis the season after all. :)

Nah. I upped my calories recently and am already at .5 pound loss a week. I'll probably try to exercise more to make up for holiday eating, though.

I'm just not going to worry about gaining over the holidays. I love the holidays and I love the food! My goal is to exercise a bit more than usual in hope that my eating won't get the better of me. But I'm not going to freak out about things over the holidays.

My bf and I are both going into high gear workout/weight loss mode together in the new year, so I will enjoy these holidays!

I'm going home for about a week and a half and I'm thinking of bumping my intake up to 1500 net calories a day, instead of 1300. I'd still be in the weight loss zone, but I'd be better able to enjoy my mom's great homecooking. She cooks pretty healthy as is, but seeing as I don't know when I'm going to get to go home next, I want to enjoy myself. Plus she'll be asking me what I want to eat. I also may be exercising less, though I'm hoping it won't be too cold and I can go running or borrow the car and go to the gym at my church.

If anything, I think upping my intake for a week or so will be good. I've been pretty diligent for the last three months, so it might be good and help ward off a plateau, since I'm nearing the last 5-10lbs, which always seem to be the hardest. I'm still undecided, but I have a few weeks to think about it.

I tried this a week before Thanksgiving. My intention was to decrease guilt associated with holiday indulgences and enjoy some food with family and friends. I decreased my weight-loss goal per week by 1/2 pound, and thus increased the calories allowed per day. I figured during the holidays, I could live with that.

The idea was to not see my calories over goal every day due to the food-y & drink-y nature of this time of year. (It's all around me, even at work.) What I found instead was that the ability to have more led to more and more and more, for me. I gained back almost twp pounds - eek! It was a learning lesson.

This past Monday, I went back to what was working before the change. The new plan to compensate for any holiday indulgences will be... drum roll please... burning calories. Duh! I am so dense sometimes. The bonus of this revised strategy is to get off my behind more often

This is just my personal experience, but wanted to share for perspective. I wish you a happy & healthy holiday season :drinker:

Last year I went home for Christmas so I changed my goal to maintenance to allow myself to enjoy the time- but then I stuck to that. It worked out great for me. This year I'm not going home- so not changing anything!

I think this is great. It pleases me to see people who aren't stressing about the holidays, but rather, making things work for them. Well done.

I decided if I ate like I did at Thanksgiving, that I would be another 5 lb heavier, so I joined the December weight loss challenge, and hope to lose 10 lbs this month. I have already lost 4, and if I continue to lose 2 a week, I will let up a little for a couple days at Christmas. Otherwise, I will just enjoy a nice Christmas meal and exercise twice that day to make up for it.

for some reason it wont let me edit my post.

Anyway just wanted to add im not going to go nuts on christmas and just eat everything in site, and i wont eat if im not hungry, but it'll be a free day. and i'll have my waffles and ice cream for breakfast which is christmas tradition but i'll have lite ice cream.

just try and keep it sane but have a free day.
