Does anyone else have this?
I have been diagnosed with it. Its supposed to be mild at the moment but it doesn't feel very mild I can tell you. It bloody hurts.
What exercises do you find best? I have been using the recline bike and elliptical at the gym. At home I do Lesley Sansone's Walk away the pounds workouts. I can't really swim, I can only do doggy paddle.
Any suggestions would be great. Thank you :flowerforyou:

First off brilliant job on how much you have lost so far
yeah I have this to in my hips yeah your right when you say painful
I have good days and bad days but I am always in pain and thought
that I would rather be sore because I have exercised than be sore
for doing nothing at all
I got a wii its the best thing I ever got the game that I found best was
EA Active personal trainer and then EA Active more workouts
it has diffrent levels on it so you can make it as easy or as hard as
you feel you can cope with
Hope you find your ideal exercise
good luck to you but the way your going I dont think you need much luck

The kinect works as well. They have yoga programs and stuff. I have osteoarthritis and you are right! it does effin hurt!
I must also say that I HATE exercise I normally hike, but when I can't do that, I dance to Michael Jackson Experience. But they also have a program out called "myshape" and it is awesome! it includes kickboxing, and quite a few others.
Good Luck, Know you are not alone and it sucks. But we have 2 choices, we can either Live with it, or Suffer from it. Most days, I live with it:)
have a good one!

I have osteoarthritis in one hip and in my hands. I don't run at all, but I walk on the treadmill, ride the recumbent bike and work on the rowing machine, cardiowave and crosstrainer. Anything starts to hurt I slow it down. So far only the cardiowave has led to some twinges. Swimming would be good, i believe but I can't swim a stroke. Just go with what your body tells you.0

I have a Wii but avoided the EA sports active because it looked a bit tough  Does it have a lot of jumping around to do? - that's what hurts the most. Do you get a good calorie burn on it?
I have Exerbeat which I find really good. You don't get a high burn but it is fun.
I used to do aqua aerobics and loved it but had to stop that because it involved a lot of jumping. And because it was done in water I didn't feel the effect until I got out and then couldn't walk for 2 days.
The only good thing about this OA is that exercise helps to alleviate it. So that makes me want to exercise more.
I'll have a look out for the My Shape too.
Thank you so much for your replies :flowerforyou:0 -
I don't have Osteo, but do have an artificial ankle (from post traumatic degenerative arthritis) that prevents me from doing any high-impact activities. Resulting from the bad ankle (left), my right knee is now grinding and hurting some, I suspect from overuse after protecting the left ankle so much. All that time recovering from surgeries on the ankle (10 surgeries in all, so far) meant the right leg took extra abuse. Anyway, here are some of the lower impact things I've tried in my quest to be more active and get fit.
The elliptical works for me. I just get bored.
I have a second hand Total Gym but haven't really used it to full potential yet. I just got a few dvds showing me how to use it so stay tuned.
My balance was really poor and then I started doing standup paddling (SUP). SUP is low impact and is basically as challenging as you make it. It's the workout that doesn't really feel like one until about 5 hours later. That's when my muscles start telling me how much I worked. Also, it has drastically improved my balance. My ankle is much better. I didn't realize how much I favored and protected it, but on the SUP if I favor it too much I fall in. My ankle feels better now than it has in years. Also, SUPing really helped get my shoulders and arms more fit and changed how that part of my body looks (less puffy, more toned). In my gung-ho beginning though I overdid it with gripping the paddle too hard and ended up with tennis elbow from paddling. Go figure. That's better now, thankfully. Lately it's been too cold and windy to paddle.
Since my balance is better I'll be trying Bikram, aka Hot, yoga again. That might be a nice option for Osteo since it really warms up your muscles. You go at your own pace and do what you can. My flexibility got better last time I tried it. Unfortunately I only went 4 times before my ankle complained too much from the balancing.
Belly dancing is fun and can be modified easily for any physical limitations - I got a great deal on a groupon for that.
Also, I tried Nia Dance and really like it. Nia is a sensory-based movement practice that leads to health, wellness and fitness. It empowers people of all shapes and sizes by connecting the body, mind, emotions and spirit. Google the term, "Nia Now" for more info. It's fun and really is good for anyone regardless of physical limitations. Everything can be modified.
Finally, I'm currently doing the 30 Day Shred by Jillian. I liberally modify the high impact stuff and anything else that could stress the ankle joint.
Whew.. I got a little wordy.
Anyway, that's my experience for low-impact type things that may work for you too.0 -

Wow thank you Karlaki for taking the time to type all that out for me.
I'll have a look into some of the things you have mentioned.
