Wii

Hey, I was just wondering who has used the Wii as a source of exercise and weight loss? Has it helped you to lose weight? I'm pretty much a stay at home mom working part time on the weekends and don't really have the time to go to the gym. I was going to get the Wii and the Just Dance and Zumba videos. Please let me know if it's worth it to purchase. Thanks!

That is what I started with - Wii and the exercise games...
I encorporate Just Dance every week into my exercise routine - it is a great way to get cardio...I play with my daughters so I will do two dances and then sit out a round while they do it - while they are playing I'll do some bicep or tricep curls, arm lifts, sit-ups or pushups...I have worn my HRM and gotten as much burn doing Just Dance (now you really have to go all out with the moves and moving around) as I have on the elliptical.
Some of the others I have
Sports Active - used this A LOT when I first began
My Fitness Coach (1st one - NOT the 2nd one)
Golds Gym Cardio Workout
Wii Fit & Wii Fit Plus
The first three are old titles and you can probably pick up used at a Game Stop or on-line somewhere - the Sports active uses a thigh strap and stretchy bands but they sell those separately if need be - my band broke after awhile (due to my cat clawing it) and I just bought a different type of band.
I intermixed my Wii workouts with workouts I found on my cables On-Demand and also bought some DVD titles on the cheap when they went on sale like - Biggest Loser DVDs and Jillian DVD - from those I realized I really liked a lot of the kickboxing type moves...so I bought a few kickboxing DVD's - whcih led me to seek out an actual kickboxing class - which I attend 2x's per week and LOVE IT....0 -
I bought a Wii solely for exercise purposes (my fiancee and his daughter were super excited about this, lol) and got Zumba to start with. I eventually want Zumba 2, the Gold's Gym workout, the Just Dance games, and maybe get Wii Fit with the board. I think it's a great way to have fun while you work out, and one of my friends actually lost a lot of weight doing Wii fitness games.0

For awhile I wore a bodymedia fit that calculated my burn. I found that I burned more calories doing just dance at home then I did at zumba class. Honestly I think it's because at home I really got into it but at the gym I was a bit more shy. I also love to do the free step on wii fit if my son is not being at all cooperative because I can set it so he can watch sprout jr for 30 minutes while I step right there by him. I know you aren't ever suppose to use t.v. as a babysitter but sometimes I'm just downright desperate to get some activity in (like in the dead of winter when I can't take him out to play).0

I started with the very first Wii Fit when it came out when I got my Wii, I used it for physio as I couldn't do much physically at the time so built up slowly with that and the wii sports that came with it first I could only do the easy games like golf and bowling. (slow.. take your time kind of games)
I got Wii Fit plus when that came out and quickly worked my way through them. I like that one as its easy to adapt the games and onto more vigorous games like boxing and tennis so I could burn more.
Now I have several games I can do and go on it most days for at least an hour, so I love my Wii.. Mines struggling though keep having to reboot it as had it few years now as it was one of first ones out so thinking of treating myself to a black one, though I was hoping for pink to match my pink wii motion plus controller!0 -
I have Wii Fit, EA Sports Active 2 , and Just Dance 1 and 2. Let me tell you, you feel the workout. EA Sports Active 2 is amazing! I do it 3 days a week and have lost weight and gained strength. So worth it!0

I can hardly wait for my daughter to get the Just Dance Wii games for Christmas! I'm looking forward to building those into my exercise routine. We played it together some this past weekend when a friend of hers brought it over, and it kicked my tail -- but oh, I had a BLAST with it!0

I have used it for workouts in the past. I do have Wii Fit plus, EA Active and ZUmba. But perhaps the ones I like the best are not sold as workout games, but they are great for it. Just Dance 2 and Michael Jackson:The Experience. I really like to dance (mostly in my own home, not to fond of the grinding that goes on in clubs...LOL) So those games are great for a workout, you can build up a great sweat.
I don't find Wii Fit and EA active give me a great workout. But possibly because I am used to high intensity. Such as my kickboxing and tearing up the elliptical at like 7-8 MPH.0 -
thanks for all the advice and info everyone!0
