Which is best?

I've been contemplating getting a game system with a fitness type game for Christmas this year. I want one that is fun, but really will be a workout to break up the monotony of normal exercising. What I need is some advice/opinions from those of you MFPers who have tried these games or still use them and let me know which ones are the best.
Thanks in advance.

I own both an Xbox and a Nintendo Wii. For specific fitness games, I say 100 percent go with the Nintendo Wii. Economically, its cheaper, and the selection of games is much better. The Just Dance Franchise, Michael Jackson Experience, Wii Fit, Biggest Loser/Jillian Michaels series, Wii Sports. There is much more selection with the Wii.
Besides Dance Central the kinect is practically useless.0 -
Definitely go with the Wii. Everything the other reply said is right on. I have both the Wii and XBox Kinect and use the Wii fitness stuff MUCH more often (probably because I have more of it since the prices are much cheaper). The XBox Kinect still has some improvements to make and will slowly add more fitness stuff, but the Wii is by far better at this point. It really does making working out fun - and you can do it with your kid(s) if you have any and they will think you are super cool for playing video games with them0

I don't know that you can say one is the best. The Wii of course is the original body movement game system. It has Wii Fit (and Wii Fit Plus), Wii Sports, Zumba and a whole host of other games available for it. Once you get the balance board (required for Wii Fit), it opens up more possibilities. Wii probably has the biggest selection of body movement games, especially those with a fitness twist, of the group.
The xBox with the Kinect system is cool because it reads your whole body without the need for a balance board, controllers or anything like that. From what I've heard the system works pretty well, however there are some limitations. You have to have a lot of room because there are requirements for the minimum amount of space between the player and other objects in the room (so that it can read accurately). While there are quite a few games for xBox Kinect, there isn't nearly the selection yet that is available for Wii.
Sony released their Playstation Move controller last year, however only recently started really marketing it in the US. Much like the Wii, it requires you to hold a controller. I'm not aware of other accessories like a balance board or anything to go along with it at this point. This being the newest offering, it also has the fewest number of games available. I've only seen a few mixed reviews on it so I can't comment on how reliable it is compared to the Wii.0 -
I have not tried the Wii but I LOVE my XBox with Kinect. It's amazing to not have to use a controller or other accessory other than just moving your body. And the games WILL get you moving. Even the games that are not specifically designed as 'fitness/exercise' games require you to move your body. A lot of people seem to love the Zumba and Dance games, I haven't tried them but I enjoy Your Shape Fitness Evolved and Kinect Sports. Also, the Kinect Adventures game that usually comes with the system will kick your butt even though it's not a fitness game. There's an obstacle course game you can play that gets you jumping and squatting to get past the obstacles. It was murder on my knees but it really gets your heartrate up! There is also a new Jillian Michaels Fitness Adventure game that either just came out or is coming out soon - I'm very interested in getting that one!
What would be really great is if you could try out the different systems to get a feel for them before you decide. We got the Kinect b/c we already had the XBox anyway and were much more interested in the technology where we didn't need controllers for the movement games.0 -
Playstation Move = Nintendo Wii with twice the controllers and half the fun.0

I LOVE my Wii for exercising! I've only got some Just Dance games and the Wii Fit Plus right now, but there's so much stuff I want to try. I do a good majority of my cardio with Just Dance and it's a great workout!0

I use my Wii Fit every day and love it, but we are considering an Xbox 360 with Kinect. I think it would work better to not have to hold the remote each time. We have Zumba 2 and Wii Fit Plus and I love the choices and the scale, so you don't have to actually own one!0
