Sooooo - I can't believe I'm going to admit I owned one. I actually just threw it away two months ago. Don't go for it. I spent a lot of time on weight machines/light weights and many reps. I never "toned". I didn't begin to see these changes - and get "toned" arms, until I began lifting heavy weight. ("Heavy" is obviously relative. I had to start with what I could lift and build up.)
"Toned"
1. Muscle
2. Little fat covering the muscle
The women you see with large/super muscular arms have 1- VERY low body fat, it won't happen by mistake, and 2 - Train and eat in a very, very specific manner. If they are very, very, very large and muscular it's likely they have taken steroids. Women simply don't have the testosterone levels to build massive muscles (there are very, very few exceptions to this).

Scam. The same thing can be done by just contracting your muscles for a few minutes a day. Real weights are the way to go.0

This made me laugh only because I have seen the South Park Episode about the Shake Weight and it is hilarious.0

I just think it looks DIRTY! :blushing:0

Push-ups, chair dips, arm curls with atleast 10lbs, pull-ups... better way to tone and alot easier to do.0

Me too! Here is your money for a taxi, I will sleep now...0 -
bodyweight exercises are free and likely more effective
or you can invest in a couple dumbbells and get a better workout!
I say, avoid it!0 -
My male coworkers have one that's passed around the office.... They only use it as a joke because it looks like the guys are having a one man party.....0

Funny story
I had just started dating this girl, she ran, exercised, eats healthy. We were on the topic of fitness and I had commented how dumb/lame the shake weight was. Few hours later i had to go into her room where she had her treadmill & workout stuff. There was shake weight laying on the floor!
Nothing was ever said by either of us, but it appears to have made it's way into the closet because I haven't seen it since.0 -
