Could it be that diet soda really inhibits weight loss?

IMHO, yes it does. I used to only drink Diet Coke, so I thought I was ok, but as soon as I gave it up, I started losing weight. I think I've read somewhere that because you tongue tastes the sweet, your brain expects sugar, so it responds accordingly, and when it doesn't get it you crave sugary/carby foods, and therefore lose no or even gain weight.

    some say yes...some say no

lots of threads on this...also google is amazing
  • Thanks! That's helpful. My boyfriend drinks it quite a bit and has been having some trouble losing weight even though he works out like fiend. We have started to suspect diet coke as the culprit. Thanks again!
  • ha, I just posted in another thread about how I used to drink a lot of caffinated drinks. I cut it out now, except my morning coffee, and replaced them with water. I feel SOOOOOO much better. I used to get a lot of headaches, those have disappeared. When I feel the need for something flavored, I drink Crystal Light. I have yet to see how this will help my weight loss, but so far, I know I feel so much better without Soda.

Rather than things that actually contain calories?

i drink a decent amount of diets soda and it doesnt seem to be affecting my weight loss. i'm set for 2 pounds a week and usually lose about 2.5.

if you are counting your calories i dont see how it could have much of an effect.

Only when you drink it with a big mac and large fries....
