I'm thinking about asking for a Zumba DVD for Christmas. I don't know anything about it as I have never taken a class. I have no idea which one(s) are good. Any suggestions?

Exhilarate is a good collection is great when you need to get in a work out with limited time. However taking a class you get so much more. The new friends, support & the giggles. You may have to try a few classes to find an instructor you like. Check out Zumba.com for classes in your area. I have classes at my community rec center drop in $5 or if you pay by the month works out to $4 a class. Real reasonable. If you belong to a gym many offer classes. Zumba Gold great for beginners. Zumba toning great for just that toning. Zumba Aqua water aerobics. All are fun. Highly recommend a class to tr it out & see if you like it. It takes going several times to learn routines. Enjoy.
