Lost weight not doing anything?

I have been really good this last month going to the gym and eating healthier, smaller portions and dropped about 9 pounds. My 21st birthday was last week and so naturally I was out drinking and eating like everynight for the whole week. Barely went to the gym twice. I was dreading the scale the following week, yet I still managed to drop 3 pounds! Is that normal? I dont understand. Any ideas?

Did you eat at a deficit? Calories in < calories out = weight loss.
Also, alcohol dehydrates you, so it could be gone waterweight. Have you switched up your routine? Do you lift heavy? In that case, when the muscles are recovering, they could temporarily be retaining water untill they're healed. Not working out allows them to relax and release the water, thereby decreasing your weight.0 -
