I am pretty new to regular jogging, but I kind of love it. I'm thinking about getting some ankle weights for myself to boost the workout for my leg muscles. Anybody have any suggestions for brands or weights to start with? I was looking at 5 lbs (2.5 lbs each) to get myself started.

i watch a show called The Doctors. Jillian Michaels is on there, and she said you shouldn't run with ankle weights, that they will hurt you, and mess up the way you run.

Fuhgetaboutit! No reason to do it. Plus it can really disrupt your ankle joints.

I wouldn't run with the ankle weight, you can hurt your legs easily. Try to put on your wrist instead this is what I am doing.

    Running (cardio) for burning calories

Squats/leg press/deaf-lift (resistance) for building muscle.

Instead of wearing ankle weights which will just cause you injury, try taking lunge breaks instead of walk breaks. When you feel like you need to walk to catch your breath, do slow controlled lunges for about 60 seconds instead. This will add in the extra toning you are looking for and it's free.
