And it's all good n all but is the a case for concern at all? That seems like 2 awfully high numbers to me.... I'm not starving myself either I've only gone 1 day since starting this where I've gone below 1,200 calories (daily target being 2,000)

Is it the first 4 weeks of your plan? If so you always lose more weight at first, most of the weight is water weight.

How do you know you have lost 5% body fat? Is it using scales? If so they are known to be be inaccurate.

Well I've also lost 2 inches and dropped a shirt size (from XXL to XL) and already feel the waist dropping down to 38 inches as the 40 inch jeans become loose... I'd say I'm about 6 weeks in total but 4 weeks since joining this site which is when this dramatic loss happened. I don't know I've always lost weight fast (I've lost 100+lbs twice before) but was a lot more active back then.

not sure how you are measuring the body fat but the scales with the monitor built in are not worth it, i can lose 5% body fat just by getting off the scales and measuring it again.

If you yo-yo between 24 and 14 stone surely you should know how your body loses weight, normally faster and easier at the start and then will level off as your body stabilises and adapts to the new routines.

These have been very consistent though! Providing my feet aren't wet

Also I'm sure you're right, it just seems like I'm loosing it faster then ever despite not being as active as I once was

Yes it's too much. You should be around 2-3 lbs per week (female) and no more than 4 lbs for males.

That's a guideline, rather than an absolute truth, though.

Weightloss can be a strange beast - sometimes it barely tiptoes, and sometimes it really lurches. Generally the early part of the diet is associated with more significant weightloss, particularly if you have a lot to lose.

Check you're eating enough for your level of activity, If you're confident you are, I'm not sure I'd be overconcerned as long as this doesn't persist for too long.

I have a body fat scale and Omron handheld body fat monitor. They give me the same reading. I trust them both. I don't do this all the time, but I have double checked my reading within seconds of one another and they were the same. I don't see how someone can step on a body fat scale and get one reading and then get a 5% different reading, if they step on the scale a few seconds or minute later.

Yesiamaduck, scale weight is divided into two categories: Pounds of fat and pounds of lean body mass. I don' t know if you know the formula that will let you see how much of your scale weight is from pounds of fat and how much is from pounds of lean body mass.

    Formula:

Weight x body fat percentage = Pounds of fat
Weight - Pounds of fat = Pounds of lean body mass

Pounds of fat is not the amount of scale weight or fat a person needs to lose. Pounds of lean body mass is the requirement for the body. A person wants to either maintain that number or raise it.

Yesiamaduck, subtract your current results from your starting results to see what's going on with your body. Losing 20 pounds in one month is a lot. A healthy monthly loss is 4 to 8 pounds ( 1-2 pounds a week). Fat loss and body fat percentage loss takes time. You might want to check with your doctor to see if something is wrong. Are you a diabetic or have a thyroid problem?

5lb a week for a young guy, at that weight, is not a surprising amount at all
  • Depending on your starting weight, it sounds very possible to me. I lost a large portion of my weight during my first 4 weeks, and I found it was all top fat and water weight.

Your weight loss should drastically slow down now, and be more of a 1-2lb loss a week. I wouldnt worry, if you snacked as much as I did before starting MFP, then this quick loss is to be expected. If you ate properly before though, this shouldnt happen.
  • It is not that weird for a male to lose 20 pounds in 4 weeks, my dad started weight watchers and his first week he lost 18 pounds and he lost 180 pounds in 6 months and his doctor said he was healthy and was taken off of all of his medication. As long as you are not starving your body it will be ok because everyones body is different. And when my dad lost the 180 pounds he really didn't exercise just drank water and watched his food in take.

I've done it on more than one occasion. It seems like you were about the same size as me when I started. It'll even out eventually. I wouldn't stress about it too much. There are weeks now where I'll lose 6 lbs even now. But there are weeks where I only lose .5, so you'll lose it faster at first, but don't stress too much.

It's fine. I have lost almost 12 kg in 6 weeks eating about 1000-1200 cal. I feel much better, I'm eating much healthier and I'm not tired or hungry. You are doing well, keep it up.
