Hello all, my name is Annie, and I'm going to Costa Rica (talk about motivation) this summer to take a TEFL (teaching English as a foreign language) certification course. The course begins in June and is 4 weeks long. It is based in San Jose, which is where I will be staying with a host family. I know some Spanish, and am in persuit of a Bachelor's Degree in Spanish Education through Montana State University Billings. Anywho, I am looking for some pointers as for what to do, where to go, etc. The course itself is Monday-Friday, 9am-6pm. I'd like to go dancing AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE (particularly on week nights after class.) Also, on weekends I'd like to head for some nice beaches, and squeeze in a few great day hikes. Any tips would be helpful. This is completely foreign to me.

I went last summer and LOVED it!!! I'm used to laying at the beach on vacation but I got in shape during this trip! We spent a couple days at the volcano at Arenal. You can go hiking around the volcano, we went hiking down to a waterfall (down a killer steep mountain) and there are hot springs at the base of the volcano that are awesome to relax in after all that activity. We also went to Monteverde in the cloud forests. The one thing you HAVE to do while there is go ziplining. It was fun, beautiful, and pretty inexpensive too. We also had a guide who took us on a tour of the rain forest at night. We went in July and it was a little cooler than I expected...in the 80's and rained A LOT so make sure you take a poncho or rain jacket and some warmer clothes for night. I'm so excited for you! You're going to have a blast :)
