I have been trying to loose a pound not 20 like i originally intended so i make small goals to not to intimidate myself but still nothing.

Last 2 weeks I've done nothing but followed everything proper and still nothing !

i haven't lost any weight but i keep gaining.

I run 20 min and do 20 min strength training morning.
I eat my work out calories and i do eat more than i used to where i am not starving myself.

Monday - Wed i do 1.5 hour muah thai and
tuesday - thursday i do 1,5 hour or boxing work out
friday i am off

sat 1,5 hour of boxing and sunday i am off

what's wrong here !

i am still 140 pounds for the last 2 weeks - and i tried 2 different scale

i want to cry soooo much !

all i want is last 20 pounds - and nevermind that a little change maybe a pound !

i should've lost at leasts a pound the last 2 weeks ?

How are your clothes fitting? Did you take your measurements and compare them from before to now? Maybe you are losing inches, but just not weight yet.

    Mel,

Remember. This is a LONG term thing. Ask Kerri how long it took her to lose any weight. Now she's down what? like 100 lbs or so. Trust us, it works, you just have to give it time, patience and persistance are the most important aspects. I know it's hard, we've all been there. Give it time, give your body a chance to do what it needs too, and keep working, it'll happen.

What are you eating and how often? Also are you frinking enough water? Are you working out in the morning before eating or drinking? Are you snacking thru the day a cookie here or chip there? Also watch your sodium intake, it will make you retain water. Try doing a different exercise, maybe you body has become use to it and its not working well anymore or you can really UP the workout speed so you are heavily sweating. Hope some of this helps:flowerforyou:
:drinker: You can do it you just have to be extremely detailed.:drinker:

How tall are you? What is your bone structure? Do you REALLY NEED to lose any weight at all? Maybe your body is telling you that you are just right!
  • I feel you... I've been at the same weight for just over the last 2 weeks now. I lost my first 15 like they were nothing and now I'm just standing still. I am noticing definition in my arms and shoulders, and my bum is firmer, jeans are looser. I can still see the big, thick layer of fat covering my stomach and thighs, though.

I upped my cals this week, hoping that would change something. I had my profile set for 2 lbs per week, but that was impossible once I lost the first 15 (can't have a deficit big enough unless I eat under 1200). So I changed it to 1 lb per week, which gives me an extra 190 cals per day. I'm hoping that in a week or so, the new calorie intake will help.

I also had to change my activity level. I'm a dog walker and before I started MFP, I walked my regulars at a leisurely pace. Now I have turned those walks into mini-workouts. I count them as cardio (my HRM tells me how many cals), but I still do real work-outs on top of that. So I changed from sedentary to lightly active.

::sigh:: Waiting is crappy, but at least I'm being healthy while I wait! Sorry I can't be of much more help. It gets harder the longer you work at it because your body just adapts and tries to hold on to those last few pounds. But don't give up, keep pushing and eventually you'll break that plateau. :flowerforyou:

I would see a doctor. Maybe you have a thyroid issue? I know "everyone" has a thyroid issue these days but your symptoms sound like they fit!
  • I'm sorry I don't have an answer for you. But I can tell you I know how you feel. For the past month, I have had no loss. I've wanted to (and have) cry and/or do something violent (don't worry, I wouldn't do anything bad) cuz it's making me so mad. But this morning I was FINALLY down a pound! I just reevaluated what I was doing (or not doing) and tweeked my eating and exercise a little. All I can say is that our bodies are weird and unexplainable sometimes, but hang in there cuz when it finally gives and you lose again it will be worth it!!
  • What is your carb/protein/fiber intake? It should be at about a 40/30/30% of your total calorie intake. Also, I stick to a 1600 calorie diet give or take. I never eat the extra calories from exercise on purpose. I guess my question with eating your exercise calories is, why? You have to burn more calories than you take in to lose weight so if you eat the extra calories from exercise you might as well not have exercised at all. Try sticking to a set number of calories. Check your carb/protein/fiber intake with what you are eating and try to stick to the 40/30/30 principle. I do P90X as my routine for exercise so I'm working out 6 days a week for between 45-75 minutes. I burn anywhere from 450-800 calories with my workouts. I've lost 11 pounds since I started my routine in the first week of January. I don't know if this will work for you but it is worth a try. Hang in there, you sound determined so I'm sure you can do this.

Jersey- I don't think you should give advice like that until you have read all of the NUMEROUS posts explaining why that concept is inaccurate.

    Please see here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/10665-newbies-please-read-me-2nd-edition

Banks has done a LOT of research to create these links. and we have many members who have lost 150-200 lbs following these rules. so please don't give bad advice to newbies, when you are a newbie yourself.

(please understand I am not being grumpy/preachy, it just is counterproductive to post wrong info for others, and my ticker shows that the method works. I started at approx. the same time you did)

Sometimes I wonder that when folks have a certain number they want to reach. Who says our body wants that same number?

Lots of good thoughts here for you ...as Banks shared, it's a long term commitment and anyone that's lost and done it in a healthy way and has been able to keep it off has done it the healthy way.

As often shared on here we didn't gain the weight overnight so we can't expect our bodies to drop it overnight. :flowerforyou:

I hear ya, it is frustrating but if you stick with it you will notice results.

I actually gained according to the scale when I first started this. But my body was changing and I was becoming more toned. I read the posts Banks had done and stuck with it. And eventually the weight started coming off.

You seem to be in a healthy range so it is just going to take more time.

    Hang in there! :drinker:

No need to get mad I just think Jersey is saying what works for her.:drinker: ....Ive had great success as well and I steer clear of my excercise calories..*yes* I have read the links...but I do what works best for me and what makes me feel good....There is no harm in someone switching up their routine to test what will be the best for them....there is no one set way for this to be done...in regards to the original post..I think you should get a full physical including bloodwork done with your doctor and explain to him your caloric intake and output ..perhaps meet with a nutritionist and take a food and excercise journal with you....I meet with my Doc every 3 weeks ....lord knows I have spent enough money on what I call my "obese" ailments...so now I consider it spending good money on what will get me healthy...*meeting with my nutritionist*..Good luck

Ok ok, everyone calm down.

Jersey was just trying to help, LL is too (in her own...sorta...way  ) And thank you guys for understanding.

I don't think it's quite time for a doctors visit for Mel, I think that she just needs to make sure she's where she needs to be, and give it some TIME. Seriously guys. She just said herself she's only been doing this for 2 weeks. I lost a grand total of like 3 lbs my first month. and I had 55 to lose. She's only 20 lbs from her goal, and if you look at her pictures (assuming they are current), you'll notice that she's maybe (if anything) very slightly into the overweight category, but more likely she's in the normal category already, so really loosing any weight at all for her is going to be a VERY long process. No need to re-analyze her whole life, just give it a few months and then re-evaluate.

ok, I'm in disagreement here, I'm not mad.

Jersey, and now Myastyme, are advocating methods that go against what we KNOW to be true. if you wanna eat only one snickers per day, you will lose weight as well. that doesn't mean it is helping your body out or doing it efficiently in a way that will have long lasting effects.

I am taking the advice of Banks (goal weight), Fitness Chick (230+ lbs lost), Tami (165+ lost)

you do what you want. but everytime I see a post that advocates against healthy weight loss, I will speak up. there is too much documented information that says EAT THE EXERCISE CALORIES.

    Hi Banks,

You have been amazing and i do listen to you ! just when i get on the stupid scale the number wins over and it's the mental thing i am fighting everyday. Don't think i wasn't listening to your advice or what you have been telling every each of us everyday and i know you are sometimes repeating yourself because we are a bit heard headed well i am ... shouldn't say we

but stupid estrogen ! i keep saying i am doing this to be healthy not for the weight and if i don't get on the scale i am afraid i'll let it go and gain - i am keeping at it - will check in next thursday to see if there is a difference ...

    thanks again

I posted this for another lady who was gettting married, some people liked it, maybe it will help.

the last 20 pounds is the hardest to lose so stop beating yourself up. Will 20 put you at the "perfect" number? We all have or had one. The number that we picture in our head will make us look like the next cindy crawford or halle berry (yeah my age is showing here ) I decided that there is no such thing as a perfect number. It is an imagined number that we think will make us perfect. I had one, it was 126. I decided a few months ago, to sustain that number, I would have to eat 1200 calories for the rest of my life. I now weigh 135. I now consider it my perfect number. It took me all my life to realize this. I can eat, I exercise, I have no rolls and I have muscle tone. Is my body perfect nope not a chance, but I realized there is no perfect. Your fiance is marrying you because he loves you and the way you look, don't ruin your anticipation of your upcoming day because you think you may not reach your goal. You are just beating yourself up and making yourself feel bad. Geez you are adding to all that stress you are already under. You wouldn't let someone else treat you like that so why let yourself.

I think your problem, besides wanting the weight off yesterday (I was there too) and thinking you are working like a dog and getting nowhere (yep me again) you are feeling like you are working so hard and you get nothing but disappointment. I can relate.

Every day that you work out and eat properly is one day closer to where you want to be, even if the scale doesn't immediately show it. That is what you have to keep remembering. Unfortunately, we are not patient people, and that sometimes our impatience ruins whatever good intentions we set out with. My progress was slow. It took me about six months to get 7 pounds off. Sounds awful I know, but when I got it off, I was toned and in shape and realized I didn't have to lose 17, seven did it for me.

You work out a lot. A lot more than me. You are burning a lot of calories, I think you need to trick your body for a while and feed it more. I know you only have a couple of months so not much time to try new things, but if you read the posts on here a lot of people couldn't lose until they upped their calories to around 1400 per day plus their exercise calories. If you are eating 1200 your body doesn't have any extra to work with and can barely squeak out the essential function with what you are feeding it. Fuel is as important for your body as it is for a car. When a car runs out of gas, it chugs and goes on and does not work properly. When your body runs out of food it knows it can't work properly and slows down your metabolism so it can reserve energy for its essential functioning, so it isn't letting go of the love handles when you aren't giving it enough. They are the body's reserve and it will do everything it can to keep them. From the amount you are working out, and stressing and not sleeping, I think your body requires more. Maybe you underestimate how many calories you burn when you exercise.

I know eating more goes against what we have learned our entire lives to lose weight, but it is logical, enough calories in are a necessary part of living. It makes your body work right.

I hope no one takes offense, just my thoughts on what has worked for some people in the past and myself. Repeat, every day to yourself "I exercise and eat properly, I am one day closer to my goal, whether the scale says it or not. That can be your mantra

Have you had your body fat% tested to see if you are overweight? I have found what the charts say I should weigh is wrong based on my body fat%.
