I started out at 270 and am now at 244. I'm thinking I want to lose about 20 more pounds before I start running (well, jogging). I figure the less I weigh, the easier it will be on my joints. Plus I have a bad knee and want to put as little strain on it as possible. (I will see a doctor about my knee before I start running/jogging before I start).

What weight did you start running?

Highest @ 230lbs. Took it one day at a time. I used to treadmill because its more easier on the knees than the streets. But eventually I went the transition to the roads. So I started off around 1-2 miles and this was already pushing it at the time. Nowadays I go up to 10miles a run, but then again I'm 40lbs lighter now

started the first time at 240lbs, lost a great deal of weight after that ran a half marathon.

then put back on ten stone soo urm back to running now at 278lbs very gently.. I miss it a GREAT deal starting with gentle intervals its not quite running yet but its making me a lot happier.

When I lose oo another 4 stone i'll invest in another great pair of running shoes

I think that you can run at any weight as long as you start off really slowly to give your joints etc plenty of time to strengthen and adapt. Invest in some good quality shoes you are worth it. Congratulations for giving it a go. I started running following the c25K program and did many of the weeks to to three times to ensure I was ready for the next week. Last year I did a half marathon and this year I am aiming for a full
