I need some food suggestions. I am supposed to eat stuff that is slow to digest and high in fiber. How much fiber is high? I was going to buy tortillas yesterday but the white flour and ALL the whole wheats and other grains had the same amount of fiber (3 grams) so i just bought the white. 3 grams doesnt seem like its enough to bother with. I'm confused about the differences of "hard to digest", "high fiber" "low glycemic index" and "complex carbs". They are different from each other, and its hard to find food with all these requirements. The best meal i have found so far is : Dave's Powerseed bread (just say "no" to bread on drugs). I toast this and put some PB on it. I have two slices with some egg whites with a little shredded cheese. This keeps me full for hours! usually its only an hour and im stuffing my face again cuz my blood sugar is too low. So im trying to imitate this without having the same thing for every meal. its hard to shop cuz i dont know what has a low index. i can look it up on the internet, but it only has a few foods here and there.thanks, ~jenny

It might be really worth your while to invest in an hour or so with a nutritionist who can help you tailor this to your specific needs. I am IR, so have to watch some of the same things. Best ideas from me would be to eat everything as close to the way nature made it as possible. This means whole wheat, whole grain, peels on the fruits and veggies (where reasonable). It means staying away from boxed mixes or product unless you read the labels for low sugar/high fiber.

Found this website, that gives you a list of high fiber foods.

Load up on veggies - high fiber and low gi is given (carrots are a bit higher and the "veggie" fruits like tomatoes and squash are too). Fruits also have high fiber and moderate sugar.
Pair a carb with a protein like you do with pb and bread. It will digest more slowly so have less impact on blood sugar spike/crash (my friend who is a diabetic does this to keep her sugars stable). Beans and brown rice. Lean meat and baked potato (a small one, including the skin). Fish and pasta (whole grain if you can). Things like that.0
