    It's SURVIVOR night.

Homemade 15-Bean soup and sauteed zucchini with garlic and onion.
That sounds good! I love bean soups.

What 15 beans are in it???? WOW!! I didn't realize there WERE 15 beans!!

Maybe that's the quantity of beans, not the variety.
Then I get first dibs on the soup so I can get the beans!! You can have whatever is left!!

Hurst's Hambeen's 15-Bean Soup is a dried bean mix you can buy in any grocery store in the pasta section. It comes in a bag like any dried beans do.

You soak the beans over night. Then drain, place in large (3 qt minimim) pot. Add 2 qts water. I use CrockPot.
Add 1 lb ham hocks (I use pork shoulder, lean, with liquid smoke instead) Boil then reduce heat and simmer for 2 1/2 hrs.

Then add 1 15 oz. can tomatoes
    1 onion chopped
    1 tb chili powder
Garlic ( I love garlic so the recipe says 1-2 cloves, I add 4-5 )
    Simmer 30 min
Add seasoning packet that comes in the package (it says "ham seasoning") - but you can leave it out.
    Salt and pepper to taste
(I add other spice like Mrs Dash, low sodium chicken broth, and lots of fresh ground pepper)
Any of the dried beans have recipes on them. I just like this particular mixture of beans. It's in the food database. I do it for the fiber and protein.

My son has been begging for sloppy joes. I'm using ground turkey instead of hamburger, and using a spice packet instead of manwich. Baked beans and broccoli for sides.
