Hey All...
okay- having a lighthearted debate and I'm interested in what people think about this comment:
men make time for what's important to them; women make time for what's important for others....
Comments???? (by the way I'm not hating on anyone-like I said it's just a lighthearted Saturday night convo with a friend and wanted to see what others think about that comment. No right or wrong answers so be nice![:) :)](https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/resources/emoji/smile.png)

Well... "others" are often what's important to men and women. This is a fine example of blanket statements and circular thought.0
-
Well, I totally agree with u nygiantschick. Im always thinking of what I can do for someone else.0
-
I disagree... I know a LOT of women who are selfish and are willing to stomp on someone's feelings in the name of their own interests and or wants. I think we all have moments when we think of others... and we all have our selfish moments... so I would have to disagree.0
-
Probably more truth to it then not in a general way due to the instinctive nurturing tendencies of ladies.
This of course will be followed by dozens of posts from both men and women saying they or their spouse are not as described.0 -
I think men are women are often stereotyped to fit our society's "gendered" behaviors. Both males and females can do both. I think it just depends on a person's personality and what environment they choose to show it.0
-
some people are not interested in others at all...some are only interested in themselves and things....unfortunately....but interesting feedback. thanks.0

My husband thinks of others a lot more than I do. He's generous and thoughtful to a fault (IMO) :smooched: , he doesn't like making left turns when not in an intersection because he doesn't want to inconvenience those behind him. :huh:0
-
i agree there are some women who are definitely only about themselves...there are men in my family who have been hurt by women like that.. very true....thanks!0

I think it's unfair to say that selfish behavior has anything to do with gender.0
-
I don't think that's true at all... My husband (he is a man, if any clarification is needed there) is the most giving person I know... I ALWAYS puts himself last and is always looking out to put me and our children before himself.... ACtually, most of the IMPORTANT men in my life are pretty much this way... Even close guy friends I have had.... So, I don't believe men are on the look out to only benefit themselves....
And I know some pretty selfish women... So, I don't think the reverse is true for them.....0 -
True in our house up until recently. My husband always makes time for what he wants to do, and he deserves time on his own. He's a devoted husband and dad. OTOH, I always gave of myself - work, home, friends, grad school, volunteering- until there was nothing left for me. That changed this year when I realized what my family wants is a happy and healthy me. Now I make time for what *I* want. And I am a better person for it! I still occasionally have guilt, but really there's no need for it. I deserve this, and so do they!0
-
I agree with that too!!! Environment is a very powerful influencer of how we behave.0

I think there is really is no one answer to this question because the outcome is more nurture than nature. Experience and upbringing plays the greatest role in determining the behaviors you've given.0

I disagree. While I wouldn't say I'm selfish, and I do consider what is important to other people in my life, on the whole I put myself first and make time for what is important to me.
I don't think of this as a bad thing, as long as others aren't getting hurt in the process. As someone else mentioned about some women who are selfish and stomp on others feelings to get what they want - I hope I'd never be that sort of person.
I also know more men who would put others first than I do women. Although I really don't think this is something you can label to a certain gender as everybody is different.0 -
I think people make time for things that are important to them. We do what we want to do, and we don't do what we don't want to do (minus working and things like that
)

This.
I know for me that i do a lot of things for myself. I make myself a priority when it comes to my health...working out, eating healthy. But as far as materialistic things..nah. I'm pretty giving.
My husband is very generous and will do for others before himself. BUT he also makes himself a priority when it comes to health. TOgether we do this for our kids.0 -
I don't think that statement applies to men or women. I think its all about the character of the person, male or female. Selfishness comes from the heart of the person, not their gender.0
-
I dont this it's gendered based...it's on the individuals. Some people think of others, and some people think only of themselves.0
-
untrue, I know too many selfish woman ( as well as unselfish) & too many guys who do so many thing for others looking for nothing in return..0
-
this is all very refreshing feedback!!! thanks everyone!0
