Edema after exercise?

I'm finding that every time I exercise (or do hot yoga or go in a sauna), even if I feel well hydrated, my hands and feet get really swollen. Is this something that is common? Do I have to drink even more water?? :grumble:

TIA!

How swollen? Any pain? Most people I know have small amounts of swelling in their fingers when exercising, but nothing really that noticeable.

I'm not sure how common this is, but if you're concerned I would ask your doctor. Over the summer I had a few pretty terrifying instances of edema (feet, ankle, lower leg swelling and pain) so I went to my doctor and it turned out to be one of the more rare/severe side effects of birth control pills. I stopped taking them immediately and the problem went away, although I still occasionally have some swelling, mainly in my fingers, so I can never wear rings when I'm exercising.

I have the same issue. Especially after my longer runs my fingers swell quite a bit. I've been to get checked out by my doc and everything's fine so I'm unsure of what the issue is. I have noticed that putting my hands above my head every so often when exercising helps quite a bit.

I've noticed that after I do any workout with weights (Bob or the gym) my weight tends to go up a lb the next day vs when I run the weight goes down....I was thinking water retention for muscle repair but could be totally wrong on that.

So I'm not just a freak show! LOL My hands are swollen to the point that my rings get uncomfortable and sure don't look nice. Prior to a workout they are easy to move and on really good days they jingle! :grumble:
