Working out on thick carpet

Ok, so I like fitness dvd's because if I can't get to a class at the gym, it's more fun to follow a routine than be a hamster on a wheel at the gym on a machine. But I have thickish carpet and it seems to make it hard for me. My tennis shoe catches on it and I feel like I can't move side to side without tweaking my knees. Does anyone else do workout dvd's on thick carpet? What works? Is it better to go shoeless or is that too hard on the feet?

I go shoeless from time to time.
I also have been known to put my shoes on and work out in the garage after my husband leaves for work. It isn't nearly as cold as you'd think in there. It's plenty of room for me to jump rope.0 -
I tried to go shoeless and my feet killed me by the time I was done. I could barely walk up and down steps the next day. What I did was buy a puzzle mat by Gold's Gym at Wal-mart. Gives you a little extra cushion and your shoes move easier on it especially if you are doing anything high impact. The other thing I have heard of people doing is putting duct tape on the balls of your shoes so they don't stick to the carpet. Hope you find something that helps!
