One year ago I was sick, in pain, and preparing for a second surgery on my jaw. Six months ago I had a PICC line in my arm and was recovering from a fifth, massive surgery. Three months ago I started back on the road to fitness. Today I ran my first 5K in 8 years. FIERO!!!

(Bit of a background: In 2004, I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease, and gained about 80lbs related to illness and steroids. It took several years to get healthy, and I've been slowly dropping the weight. In 2010-2011, I battled a pervasive, dangerous, and hard to kill infection in the bone of my jaw. It took a year, five surgeries, three hospitalizations, a pulmonary embolism, heart distress, and partially collapsed lungs to kill the infection. I am now infection-free and running 5Ks. If you're feeling frustrated or upset with your progress, remember that success is never a straight line. Hang in there, and you can do it!)

Just wanted to share this because I'm pretty stoked. It was a great run! :D

Cheers,
Jessica.
