I'd only seen one other topic on this that wasn't too specific, but I am sharing a review on The Biggest Loser Simply Sensible Beef Pot Roast and Gravy with Mashed Potatoes
Retail Price: $6.99 (at Publix)
Servings: 2
Calories per serving: 220
Carbs per serving: 16g
Sodium per serving: 530mg
Protein per serving: 23g
Portion size: This is advertised as being two servings of pot roast and potatoes for 220 calories a serving. However, I find the portion sizes to be small and ended up eating the whole package as my dinner. (I have a higher calorie goal, so this was fine for me, at 440 calories, but If I had eaten more during the day this would have been too many. For some, 220 is good) You can't cook one portion separately, so you will either have left overs or a meal for a friend. The meat is 2 pieces, about 3" in diameter, and 1/4 cup of potatoes. There is a RIDICULOUS amount of gravy, and when I say ridiculous, I mean it covered my entire plate like soup. Perhaps to make you feel better about the small meat pieces?
Taste: I was expecting this to be horrible, but it actually wasn't! The pot roast pieces tasted only slightly different than fresh pot roast and the potatoes were good, a bit better than instant varieties. The gravy had bits of carrots and onions. I liked the gravy, but since there was so much of it, if kind of overpowered the rest of the meal.
Appearance: The potatoes look like your average instant potatoes. The pot roast were two small pieces, sort of a brownish color. It looked okay, but not like the picture on the package.
Easy: The package directions recommend either microwaving or boiling in water. I chose the boiling in water method, which was a little on the messy side as I got water on the counter and almost burned my hands. However, it was way easier than making a pot roast and mashed potatoes. So for the convenience it was worth it. I work nights at a restaurant, and often get home after 10 pm, so it is kinda nice to have real homey type food without all the fuss.
Value: For me, a big fat no. $3.50 a serving is awfulyl expensive, even for the convenience that it offers. I could buy a small steak and an entire bag of potatoes for $6.99. However, I bought this entree for only $2.99, as it was already $3 off at the store plus I had a coupon. The website offers coupons as well as the Sunday newspaper.
Bottom line, I would purchase this again only if it were on sale or I had a substantial coupon. I've had way worse, even horrible frozen and reheated entrees, but this was actually pretty decent. If you would rather have the convenience and can justify the price, this might be a good choice for you. If you are dieting with a spouse or friend, make this plus a steamer bag of veggies for quick meal and even quicker cleanup!
