Tripped while jogging and got road rash on the front of my leg from my calf up to mid-thigh. Suggestions? I washed it with warm water and soap, then slathered it in antibiotic ointment. But it's throbbing and radiating heat.

Oh erk :/ you poor thing. Things like that don't only hurt you, but your confidence. I don't have any sage advice except ensure you've iced your joints.. take some ibuprofen and rest.

Just make sure you got everything (rocks and bits of debris) out. While it hurts to clean it now, it will hurt much worse if they have to abrade it later to fully clean the area...

Had that many times from playing on astro turf. Make sure you keep that antibotics on it and cover it when you go to bed because it can drain. If the heat and trobbing is bothering you. Take a cloth in cold ice cold water and lay it on it while you are resting.. Once it scabs over it will break and be painful. You want to try to keep it moist to avoid that.

Agreement from a another bike rider that has had a couple great road rashes.

Also, be glad you already shave your legs!

Also make sure you keep it covered with antibiotic cream for a bit and bandage, and then other cream later. You do not want scabbing. I still have an area that dried out on mine, a year half later still very noticeable because of bad healing. And that is through the hair.
  • A little herby, but you can make a poultice out of St. John's Wart. No, It won't make you happy, but it speeds healing. If you can find a salve with it or extract that is even easier.

    It worked for me.
