    Go to a shoe store that specializes in running and runners, and get fitted with the best shoes you can afford to buy. If the store is good they'll do an analysis of your feet, your stride and your running style and fit you accordingly.

    That by itself will save your knees and ankles more than any other thing you can do, except simply using your head and listening to what your body is telling you when you are moving.
