Negative Reinforcement?

What's the one thing that forces you to get back on track when you're very low on motivation, you've had one too many fails, and you feel like quitting?
I know mine is this: I keep remembering what a person once said about me, that they thought I would NEVER be able to get in shape because I'm such a negative person, and because I don't have the right attitude.
Every day of the past few months is me trying to prove this person wrong. I CAN DO IT. Right?
Hopefully, by the time I do achieve my goal and prove this person wrong, it would have ceased to matter, and I'd be more focused on my own success more than the other person's stupid comment.
