High weight day after a big workout

Hey all,
Does anyone experience this; the day after a big workout my weight goes up. I'm training for a 7 day bike trip in March, and do some 25 mile bike rides to prepare. After a long ride like that, or a night out swing dancing for a couple of hours, I weigh 2-4 pounds more for a few days! What's going on?

Happened to me this morning. Very long bike ride and then worked out for 2 hours with a Kinnext Game yesterday. Then get on the scale today and 2 pounds higher. Would love to hear more about this.0

From how this was explained to me: This is water retention weight. When you workout, your muscles swell, and they hold water to heal. This is not an "official" gain... it's just your body taking what it needs to continue to build muscle and improve0

Yup. Muscles are filled with water to help aid in repair. Just down a bunch water to aid the body as much as possible and it will come down again. Don't worry about it0

This happens to me too. Water, water, water!!!0

Oh that makes me feel better. I did Zumba yesterday and then ran errands, baked and was on my feet ALL day and was up 3 pounds from Friday...I thought maybe it was salt. Could be that too I guess!!0

Yeah, water retention. Your weigh can be destabilized by even a moderate workout, which is why my official weigh-in day is the day after my official rest day and 2 days following the most recent strength training session.0

Makes sense - thanks!0 -
Oh THANK YOU for this information. I recently joined a gym and after my first week, I gained weight!0

just make sure you aren't "over estimating" calories burned.... if you are eating your exercise calories back... some of the calorie burns in here seem a little high...
but otherwise totally could be water retention from working out... that why I only weigh in on the morning after a "rest" day. So if I rest on friday - I weigh in sat morning... seems to be the most accurate time... as the muscles have shed most of the water by then.... now if you work out 7 days a week not sure what to tell you
god luck and dont give up!!
* sorry didn't see the above post * basically the same post... haha0 -
Happened to me today - I finally saw the scale moving down late last week but after Zumba on friday, Body Combat Saturday, Body Pump and Step late yesterday I was up almost 3 pounds from last week's low this morning. ARGH. I did eat out on Saturday with a few beers but was under calories yesterday. I am trying not to freak out about the number on the scale. My size 8 pants still fit well!0
