Lifting weights on TOM :)

Is it a good idea, or will it make cramps more severe?
I was thinking of doing cardio all week, but I was wondering the effect of lifting weights 3 X a weeks while on TOM. I just started lifting a few weeks ago and formed a nice habit of it. Don't want to break that habit unless it will cause more TOM discomfort.

Thank you for your responses :)

I don't find that it does.. but then again, since I'm on B/C I don't really have that much cramping anyway.

I would say your overall soreness feeling might increase but I do it anyway. Otherwise I'd miss a whole week of lifting.

I don't let TOM deter me from doing anything. Just a normal day. Run, lift, classes.. whatever is on the schedule today. If I feel bad, I take an ibuprofen and just go.

i have severe cramping with my TOM and I still lift, I will take some motrin (600-800mg) a 1/2 hour before I go to the gym and I've never had a problem with cramps while lifting. The only issue I have is it tends to make me flow heavier while lifting, so I just make sure I change my tampon just before I start working out and take an extra one or two in my bag to change afterwards...and if I am lifting and doing cardio the same day, I may have to change between the two...sorry if TMI

I have ibuprofen, that is brilliant. would it work better taken with miodol or should I take one or the other?
Wonderful suggestions, take an anti inflammatory and extra tampons.
No one mentioned miodol, what do you think about it?

I agree.... I still lift and work out during TOM! I'm so tired of TOM dictating my life....that I take some pain meds and keep moving.

I make no changes to my lifting routine or diet. Just another week. Doesn't make it any worse for me.

Um, I wouldn't take miodol and ibuprofen together... but if you take one, and then take the other like 6 hrs I later or w/e the time frame is, I believe that would be alright.

As far as Miodol goes, I used to use it and thought it was fine. The pills are really big and chalky though.. and thats kind of gross.

I wish I was as lucky as the ones that i can just pop ibuprofen and go.. unfortunately for me, it didn't workout that way. If I wasn't on B/C, then I'm stuck in bed all week due to awful cramping.
  • Some months are worse than others, but I usually go ahead and lift anyway, though if I'm feeling fatigued I'll go lighter on the weights. Better to do a less intense workout than hurt myself and not be able to work out at all!
  • It helps my cramps n flow
