Been MIA, but now I'm back! Question......

I have been MIA for a very long while. Needless to say during that time I have been more off track then on. I weighed myself for the first time today in MONTHS and surprisingly have lost SOME weight. I have been more concientious about what I have been eating and my portions. I want to try and get more diligent about my weight loss.

I spoke with a neighbor that had the RNY WLS, and seriously considered it myself, but I'm not too keen on some of the side effcts - as well as the fear of not succeeding with it as well. I have read many, many success stories on here of individuals that succeed without WLS, so why not me?

I do have a question for those who have had successful weight loss regardless the means. Per my neighbor that had WLS, she still has the bad of fat around her waist and really saggy skins she says. She said without cosmetic surgery, she will always have that. She says for as much weight as I want to loose, regardless how I go about it, I too will have that same issue. Is that true? I mean, I see those on The Biggest Loser that have lost considerable amounts of weight and do not appear to have that issue because of intense work outs. I have a membership with the Y beginning 1/1/12 and plan to become intense as I can at working out. So again my question is, will I not be able to work off that tire tube as I'm losing weight?

It depends on the weight loss surgery. If you are talking about Gastric Bypass (the gold standard) then its because of rapid weight loss. The body is able to allow the skin to shrink back into place with a slower weight loss pace. However bypass is a physical rerouting of the bodys way of ingesting food and comes with malabsorption issues. The other weight loss path is Gastric Sleeve, similar to banding. This allows the body to lose weight but not nearly as rapidly as bypass. Yes most people who are morbidly obess and have bypass do need some form of cosmetic surgery to correct issues. You will have to check with your insurace to see if both are covered. But and I say but, the most important thing to know is that any weight loss surgery is a change in lifestyle. I know many people who have had gastric bypass and lost >than 100 lbs only to gain it back because they did not really chane their true eating habits. It is NOT a quick fix to a lifelong problem. I hope this helpstein
