Hello there;

I'm so excited because in a little while I will be travelling to Europe for the first time. it's my dream considering that I'm a History teacher.

On the other hand, for the first time as well, i'm getting good progress on my diet because of MFP. This trip is going "bother" my plans to lose weight, once I consider postponing the same as failure.

And I also heard that very cold area makes people to feel in need of consuming lots of carbs. How can I handle this body desire? Any tips are welcome? Guys from North hemisphere, what kind of food would suggest me?

Thanks a lot

This is a strange suggestion, but it works for us.

We bring a crock pot, and slow cook lean meats and veggies all day, then eat in.
Once a day we eat out followed by an hour of cardio.

    It works!

    Luci,

I would think that in Europe, your chances of losing a pound or two might be something to look forward to... First you'll be far less sedentary and second, the portions in Europe tend to be smaller than here in the US. I'd walk as much as possible and log it. MFP has some great rewards for basic walking. I also see that many MFP members are in fact from Europe so I bet attempts at logging local fare will be met with positive 'hits' in the MFP database. Don't forget to exercise (daily) and avoid carbing out at dinner time...
  • Thank you guys!

Let me share my experience on vacation... Went to Virginia with some family for a week and I have to interject here that these are family members who think of food as being part of the fun. I was really worried about how I'd do too but decided that I"m the only one who can control my decisions and actions. My plan was to eat as healthy as I could, be active, and to continue journalling my food.

I didn't have easy access to a computer so I brought a notepad with me and wrote everything down that I ate.
Made sure to go to the gym at the resort every morning and we also walked around a lot every day so I got extra activity in.
Brought some snacks with me so I could still have something yummy without going overboard. We also had a kitchen in our townhouse so I was able to buy a few of my own treats, more fruits and veggies, etc to suite my needs.

I did have a few indulgences and figured I would've at least plateaued but was pleasantly surprised to find out I'd lost 2 pounds when I got home!! So you just never know... Try not to stress about it - have fun and do the best you can! And don't think of it as failure if you do happen to stay the same or gain. It's vacation, you're supposed to relax and try new things!

    Where are you going?
While there are many tempting naughty foods here, there are also plenty of healthy options. You won't want to stick to salads on the menus when you eat out, so what I would do is eat breakfast and lunch as low calorie as reasonable, and save some extra calories for your evening meal so you can choose something more interesting.
Keep the tips from MFP in mind but don't let it ruin your holiday. I'm guessing if you visit lots of historical sites you'll be on your feet a lot, so you can afford to relax your eating habits just a little.

Oh, and if its cold and you want to stuff your face to keep warm, have a cup of tea or a vegetable soup and then rethink your cravings.

I assume you are going for a week or two.............why not just relax and enjoy yourself? Apply what you have learned from being on here, portion control and basic calorie counts and just have fun. I certainly wouldn't bring a crock pot on vacation...............
  • I read wise things here!

It is going to be 20 days in Paris.

Definetelly, I will walk around there a lot. I will try to log or take notes of everything (food and exercise). And I will try to replace carbs for warm vegetables and meats with controled portion.

    MFP rocks! Thanks!
