Went to Fitness Connection today and joined! I'm excited but nervous at the same time. Can anyone give me words of encouragement? I don't know why I'm feeling nervous about the commitment when I have been using the gym at my apartment since July!

Great committment!
Not to make you nervous, I like to tell myself that everyone is watching me there...its awesome motivation to go faster, harder and longer than I would if nobody else was around!0 -
Great job! I wasn't ever a gym person, and now I love it! ( needless to say , i need to get back in there since i do all at home fitness) but, it does help when people are there, cuz you can sorta compete with them!0

I was so nervous when I first joined the gym. even after going through a plan with a trainer, going in for that first day solo was tough! I kind of just had to do it, no excuses..as much as i tried to make one!! After about the 3rd day I felt like a natural and now I would be lost without it. :happy:0

Thanks guys! Well I went this morning for the first time but loved it! I think this change is what I needed to get past this plateau and lose the last 10 pounds. Right now I'm just sticking with what I know until I can get an appointment with a personal trainer for my free assessment. Hopefully he or she can give me some great new techniques to try out0

after a while you will feel comfortable with the gym! it is always a bit nerve-wracking at first to try out new machines and stuff, but once you learn its easy enough to figure them out!0

I understand it might be pricey, but I would recommend getting a trainer for at least 1 session to show you how to properly use the machines. If that is something you are not interested it, I would do some research on my own or your gym might even offer a show machine orientation.
If your gym offers exercise classes, I would try a few. I have learned so much from my exercise classes!
Happy exercising!0 -
Nervous or excited? They're very different !0

I joined a gym about a month ago. My recommendation.... Make it a part of your daily routine. I go every single morning before work. It is 2nd nature now and just part of the day. I look forward to it now.0

You will feel nervous to begin with, i did. But as soon as you get in there, make your self comfortable with the surroundings and the different equipment you will feel much more comfortable. dont worry about all the others that are in there - all there for the same reasons, and im sure there will be people there bigger than you. Good luck, you can do it.0

I joined a few weeks ago and I just jump on machines for whatever body part I was working (there are so many different ones). I felt kinda stupid on a few I didn't know what I was doing but who cares. Everyone I have met at the gym is super nice and helpful.0

Congrats, I am sure that you will love it. It is good to get just a few training sessions so that you can do the exercises properly and they can show you how each and every machine works and what is best for your goals.0

I like to remember that everyone there is there for the same reason, to be healthy. it might be a journey for me, but I have NO CLUE what everyone else started at, so judging is not something I do.....except the loudmouth lady on her cellphone next to me who jabbers thru her whole workout (or the guy with a laptop ON the treadmill, mouse in hand, trying to work. REALLY? take 30 minutes away from work do a SOLID workout then go back to work, because right now, you're doing neither well!). That said, focus the time on the workout, ignore everyone else, and you'll reach your goals in no time!0
