What Do You Count Towards Water?

Hello Everyone

I've been basically ignoring the place on MFP where I track my water consumption, but I would like to start using it. I'm curious, though.... what do you count towards your water consumption? Do you count water only, or do you also include other beverages such as diet sodas, protein shakes, etc?

I definitely consume more than 8 glasses of liquid a day, but it's not all water typically.

Thank You.

The only thing that I might count besides plain water is tea (talking about just plain tea) or water with a little lemon juice.

I only count water. I aim for at least two quarts a day.

I find that when I drink other beverages instead of water, I have digestive problems. If I drink them in addition to water, it's ok, but they cannot replace water for me.

Water only for me...still drink some other diet. Overall it just depends I think, some people count liquids in general, others strictly water. If you're looking to start tracking water, I'd say just track the water
  • I count water, tea, coffee

I usually forget to add it in anyway xD i get my fluids

I only count water...but I love water.....I have a Crystal Springs water cooler in my dinning room that holds the 5 gal water bottles...the water is ice cold...

but sometimes I will put a Crystal Light packet in it or a Propel flavored packet.... but I drink at least 1 gal of water a day...just because I love it

  • What about crystal light? Or no calorie/no sugar power you add to water?

Really it should be everything - water, other drinks, food (there's water in food, and it's supposed to count). This thing about drinking ANOTHER 2 litres on top of all the other water, separately, as water, has been discredited.

    Although I do it anyway.

It asks for water...so you list water.
Counting other stuff is just senseless.

Water (usually with crystal light) and gatorade type drinks. If I can't see through it, if it's fizzy, or if it's alcohol, I don't count it as water.

I only counted water. I used to try to count other things, but I didn't even realize how dehydrated I really was until I decided to count only water. Now I get about 11 glasses or so of water a day, not counting tea or anything else, and I feel so much better. I don't care if there's technically water in my tea, I count just plain water as water since most other drinks have *something* in it that affects how hydrated you are or feel you are after drinking it.

    I would!

If anyone says no - eat the powder then drink the water. Then it counts xD

Like a lot of people answering this, I log only water as water.

I track only water with the counter. Anything else gets logged in my food diary. Every beverage has some amount of macro that I track...coffee, diet soda, wine, etc.

It's ONLY water, or it would say "drinks" instead of "water" if it wanted you to include soda, coffee, etc.

    Water is water.

I only count the actual water, but I say if it has no calories, no sugar, and no caffeine it could be counted.

I study nursing and someone on a fluid balance chart, you count every liquid in their diet. That includes water, tea/coffee, soup and jelly. Good enough for them, good enough for me!

I heard the very same thing.
  • I only count water and my brewed tea (plain). I have made another category for other beverages such as soda(diet), coffee, and alcohol. These as calories, sugar, sodium so I want to add it to my daily log.

I count water. There are other drinks people drink and many of those have a diuretic effect which would cancel out some of the benefit of the fluid intake from them.

Standard tea does not have a diuretic effect on regular drinkers.

Quoted from the above article "Normal hydration was consistent with tea consumption when the caffeine content was <250 mg per cup."
