when i was a kid, my dad used to leave a beer for santa. he would tell my brother and i that he was working hard, and could use a break. we didn't leave milk and cookies, or carrots for the reindeer.
i figured out my parents were santa when i counted the beers in the fridge the night before, and that same beer was back in the fridge in the morning.

Oh, fail! Dad was supposed to drink the beer and then leave a crushed can on the fireplace!!!
We left cookies once or twice, but I don't think it was a common thing
Always left a carrot for the Easter Bunny0 -
milk, cookies and prayer bars0
-
I always leave chocolate chip cookies & milk.
But once when I was younger my parents told me Santa was on a diet so we left cheese. :laugh:0 -
Christmas cake and rum. And we sometimes gathered lawn clippings to feed the reindeer.0

Cookies and milk. Not terribly imaginative.0

We left cookies and milk when I was a kid and I did that with my kids and we also sprinkled "reindeer" food on the front yard which was oatmeal and glitter..lol!
Now I wish someone would leave some green stuff for Santa since I am him!0 -

What is a prayer bar? Is it edible? What does it do? Curious.0 -

its a dessert bar sort of - the crust is cocoa/coconut/graham cracker crumbs/powdered sugar mixed with egg and butter. middle is powdered sugar with condensed milk, vanilla and a little vanilla pudding mix. top layer is melted chocolate chips + a pecan half on each square.
i have a family recipe - my nana make them every year and im one of the few grandkids that bothered to continue the traditionill be making 5 batches this year lol (not all for us!)

Here in England, or in Spain.. we don't leave anything for Santa! But I think people leave "caramelos" and "water" for the Three wise men! the water mainly for the camels0

I had a friend in second grade that used to do that! He also left grass for the camels =]
I used to leave all sorts of crazy things for santa as a kid. I'd practically clean out the refrigerator while my parents tried reasoning with me! lol....My sister and i would always feel bad when he didn't eat all that we left and my parents would explain that he has to save room for all the other kid's cookies.0 -
suger cookies that we decorate & a glass of milk. Carrotes & oats (oatmeal) foe the reindeer0

I love the crushed beer can idea!! And condoms get points for creativity (& usefulness).
This year maybe I'll ask my 4 year old to leave out a choco peanut butter protein shake. If we love Santa-- and I think we do-- we want to help him lose some chub. (Plus Mamapeanut butter....shhhhhhhhh.)

A few salmon fillets, a handful of almonds, and some brussel sprouts...Gotta keep his diet in check while he's on the road.0
-
PS- If you were my kiddo and you questioned why the beer can was returned to the fridge, I would have told you Santa had been given 1 too many beers for his safe sleigh riding plans.0

When we were kids, my sister and I would leave eggnog and mince pies. I think the idea was just to get rid of the eggnog (YUK), but the mince pies? I don't know why I didn't eat those for Santa! Delicious!!0

i never understood this. why would the reindeer be inside the house? and if you took them up to the roof, then why would santa bring the uneaten pieces back?0 -
