I don't know for sure - but what my experience was and what I was told when I was nursing (and smoking :explode: was that if you were gonna smoke - do it right after nursing - that gives your body time to process the nicotine and get most of it out of your system before the baby needs to nurse again. It does change the taste of your milk so the baby might not want to nurse as well. I tried to drink lots of water in between after I had a cigarette so that I could try to flush more of it out. I don't really know if it worked or not. . . I tried to smoke less than 5 cigs a day while nursing. If for some reason, I went over that - I would try to pump and dump that milk as I just didn't feel comfortable with that level of nicotine still in my body.

    Good luck!

    Aunt Diane...

Go to Kellymom.com and do a search on "smoking". There are quite a few links. From my reading it is still better to nurse (even when smoking) than not at all.

Kellymom.com is an awesome site all around for breastfeeding moms!
