I don't know why this is so difficult.

I cooked 1 cup of steel cut oats. 1/4 cup dry (40 grams) is 150 calories. 1 cup cooked weighed 930 grams. How many grams cooked is 100 calories?

This would have been better had you measured out dry. Now because neither the cups or the grams are proportional, it's not really more than a best guess. Some of that weight is the water or milk that it absorbed. I usually rough estimate 1/4 cup dry will double in size/weight when wet, making approximately 1/2 cup wet equal 150 calories. If you want only 100, you need 2/3 of that amount or 1/3 cup of cooked oats.

You want to eat .2/3rds (. represented in decmal form as.66) of the 150 calories, so multiple current cooked weight *.66.

    930*.66= 613.8 grams

153.45 grams of cooked oatmeal is 100 calories

    930= 1 cup cooked

    930/4=232.5 grams

    232.5 grams= 150 calories

    232.5*0.66=153.45

(this is for if you measured one cup of dry oats and then cooked it)

You don't say what you added but let's assume it was water.

Water has no calories. Any amount of water with 40 g oats is still 150 calories.

Thus the cooked 930 grams is still 150 calories.
    Each gram contains 150/930 calories.
    So 100 grams will be (100*150)/930 = 16 calories.

And 620 grams of that mixture cooked is 100 calories.

As others have said, it's best to weigh your serving without the water. If 40 grams is 150 calories, then 100 calories is (40 *100)/150 = 27 grams.

I agree with the 620 grams is 100 calories.

    930 grams / 150 calories = 6.2 calories per gram

    6.2 calories / gram x 100 = 620 calories per 100 grams

Wait you guys are getting your proportions wrong with the 2/3 thing,

If 1/4 cup is 150 cal. then 1 cup is 600 calories.

If you want 100 calories than you need 1/6 NOT 2/3 of the total cooked.

SO in grams that would be 1/6 of 930 grams OR 155 grams.

It's much simpler if the whole thing is done in grams.

The 1 cup the OP is talking about is cooked. 1/4 dry makes 1 cup cooked. So 1/4 dry has the same calories as 1 Cup cooked. It just has 0 calorie water added for volume. So 150 calories is 1 cup cooked is 930 grams
