Hi all,

I've been on a weight loss mission for a little over a year and the progress so far has been more than I ever thought I could achieve. Since joining the gym in October last year I lost 4 stone 9 pounds in one year. The last couple of months though my loss slowed right down to the point where I was really starting to get demotivated. That’s when a friend recommended two things to me.

1) Cut bread out of my diet - not all carbs just bread
2) Use MyFitnessPal to track my meals so I can see exactly where I'm cheating

One of the biggest things that has kept me going through the last year is a fitness buddy who started at the same time I did and progressed at a similar rate to myself. As of late though that person has been pushing themselves to the limit and has kind of left me behind. So I thought as there is a great group of people here and many offering support I would put up a post to ask other like-minded people to add me so we can provide each other with encouragement and advice.

I look forward to speaking to you all and celebrating the sucess of getting to our goals!

Hello & welcome! This is a great site, so about that part your friend was right. I don't agree that you should completely give up bread. I would say make wiser choices in bread selections. Your local bakery (or even grocery store bakery) should offer some tasty and healthier bread selections. Personally, I try to stay away from extremism - I mean if you must give up something - make it something that's really bad for you like deep fried food or something. Anyway, I am here to support you if you'd like to add me. Best of luck to you! :flowerforyou:

    Hi,

I see a lot of myself in your journey: I was once at 112 kg...some muscles but mostly fat. I started to run and quit every 2 months for quite some time but I least I stopped smoking. A couple of years later, I was in hospital for a week and I decided to get on sport more seriously. I was about 95 kg and started to run 20min becoming the well known red-face of the parc. The next day it was 45, very slowly, but 45 min. I then increased speed and kept my 45 min running workout...15 days later I lost myself and run for 2 hours. I went donw to 68kg (by fasting a lot). My next job required to eat at restaurants 1 or 2 times a day, in addition to passing exams and getting nervous (so I eat much more and all the time)...I went back to my 95kg. This summer photos at the sauna are hideous, I will post them when i will get back on shape to show progress.

Two weeks ago, I started my new program here and my scales showed 96.6 kg. My goal is to get a healthy BMI (66-89kg) and to show proudly my abs at my next sauna session this summer. I have lost about 3 kg since but the 4 following are very difficult (I up and down between 93-95): I train about 2hrs 6 days out of 7 and that requires muscles. I mostly run and bike but will soon get back to swim (when at 89). I depends on carbs as I like long distances (my other goal if I keep the good work is to finish a marathon this summer, even if I am the last one)....

Why did you get rid of bread? Does it work? I am not very keen on any measure that I would not keep for the rest of my life. In addition, my all weat bread is quite low cal. If I was hungry, I would even get an etra slice between meals. My worry is what to put on it as cheese is quite fat. I take this opportunity to ask anyone to give their ideas, add me or tell me what work for them.

The funny thing with MFP is that I lose wieight without changing my meals: I just got rid of usual 500 cal of chocolate and 500 of yogurt between meals.

As for me, it seems your primary goal is not to lose weight but fat. No worry then if it takes a bit longer because you want to keep your muscles. Losing fat comes mainly after 20min of cardio, any extra minutes is fat loss. No need to say that we should also pay attention to the amount of fat that comes in. In that sense, I opt for cardio until my healthy BMI and will then get more proteins and develop musles (running with 115kg of muscles without fat is more difficult than 75kg and 20% fat in my opinion).

Sorry for this very long message, I just noticed and I stop here. Tthis to say that I have already quite some satisfaction from these two weeks regarding my shape but a lot of efforts to do. Keep on the good work. My motto for running is to wonder "what should I do to look forward coming tommorrow?"...it might work or you as well
  • Thanks for all the posts and friend requests I have had so far. Just confirms that there is a lot of support out there in the MFP world.
