Understanding km

Hi all!
I have a question about km and distances:
I walk to work (approx. 50 minutes each way) and just got a pedometer.
I usually record the steps (about 10,000 both ways combined!!!) but today I decided to record km too. It said that I walked only 3.37 km in almost 2 hours!
One website showed that 3 km should take no more than 40 minutes to walk. Am I really that slow or am I reading the pedometer wrong?! Or might I have restarted part-way through my journey?
