Pull-Ups or Lat Pull downs

I've completed P90 and moved over to P90X - the first day I found it very difficult to due all those Pull-Ups (my weight is 147), but I can do about 1/2 that weight by doing lat pull downs with more reps then my weight and pull-ups. Is lat pull downs a good alternative until I get stronger to do those pull-ups?

While I'm not on P90x so I can't comment towards that specific protocol, I would focus mostly on pullups and supplement with lat pulldowns. If you can do a few pullups (4ish) then I would just work in multiple sets.0
