Bye bye plateau!

So I had been going through a horendous (sp?) plateau since May. I could not break 172.4 lbs for the frickin life of me! Fortunately I did not ever gain during that time period but it felt like no matter what I did I COULD NOT get past that. So I stopped watching the scale and paid more attention to how my clothes were fitting. I'm pretty good about what I eat and I work out HARD (average 1000 cals burn a session) but from May - November I went down 1 pants size and nothing more. So, I finally decided I needed help. I hate asking for help but obviously I wasn't doing something right on my own. So I started by taking some spin classes at my gym and fell in love! One of the instructors told me about her bootcamp class on fridays so I started doing that too. I kid you not, after less than 3 weeks I lost 4 pounds! And all of the sudden I've got people telling me left and right how much I'm shrinking! I am now lighter and smaller than I have ever been since high school!

This week I added a session with a personal trainer along with my spin classes and bootcamp. Not only has this broken my plateau, but I FEEL so much stronger! I ran 4.5 miles today....I have NEVER run more than 2.5 miles without stopping before today! And I felt great afterwards!

My advice to those of you out there battling with a plateau: take advantage of classes at your gym! Sometimes you feel like you're pushing yourself as hard as you can, but you are actually capable of so much more! I just needed someone to push me to my true maximum.

Sometimes we just need someone to show us that we can do more than we think we can. The best part of this whole process is feeling better about yourself and learning how to be healthy and happy.

I think this shows the importance of "mixing it up!" Your body gets used to doing what you've always done. Change the workouts & you change your body... ;)
