What constitutes exercise?

I know we all know what true exercising is but how much of our daily routine do we get to claim? Like if I unloaded the dishwasher and did 2 loads of laundry do I claim that? I don't think I should because if this is part of the day anyway then it's not helping me lose weight, it's just "maintenance".

I think it just depends on the person really. Your BMR is the number of calories you can eat to maintain your body weight with zero activity. So I think if you spend 3 hours cleaning the house one day that it should be calculated. I don't count doing dishes or laundry if that is all I am doing. But if I am doing alot of cleaning at once for an hour or more then I will calculate it. I guess it's whatever you feel comfortable with. :-)0

How did you set your profile?
I set mine up as being sedentary as I work in an office at a desk. Being set up as sedentary I log pretty much anything I do: House cleaning, lawn mowing, cooking, etc. Along with what I do for exercise & fitness.
The random stuff does not add as much to my cardio burn as the exercise but it is nice to keep track as it affects my daily calories intake.
If you are set differently you will need to figure out what is part of your profile and what is the extra physical activity that burns the calories you need for your deficit.
Good luck0 -
I log the 20 minute walk to school, but not much else. If it doesn't take me longer than 15 minutes, its not worth it. If it doesn't burn at least 50 calories, its not worth it. Skip logging the chores.0

I never log housework or general day to day activities. I just calculate what additional exercise I do like the gym or a work out class as thats in addition to my normal routine. I guess it depends on the individual and as said above what you set your profile at.0

If i dont workout intentionally, I claim walking in the park as excersise.
If I workout that day, then Ill definetely claim it.
for me the idea is not to be sedentary for the entire day, and also I dont want to feel bad about myself if I dont workout that day. So Ill claim walking the dog as a last resort, because anything is better than sitting on my bottom all day hehe.0 -
I only log workouts, I don't log housecleaning, laundry or things around the house in general. I will however log gardening, especially if I'm weeding, pulling, planting etc because I'm bending, squating etc.0
