I have noticed that when it comes to sneaking a bite our favorite foods there are two sayings that come to mind:
"Distance makes the heart grow fonder" and "Out of Sight, Out of Mind"
Ok, I know they may be a little out of context but let me explain!
When I come home and I am looking for something to eat I always know exactly what I am going to make. I make it, clean up the kitchen, sit down, and enjoy. However, I have learned from my own behaviors that if I leave my delicious home made vanilla praline fudge sitting on the kitchen table in front of me, I just HAVE to have a slice! No matter how full I am from my meal, I have room for a bite of fudge! So I started hiding in next to my microwave and wha-lah! Now I don't go for it until about a week has gone by and I realize....hey I STILL have some of that fudge left! (Don't worry it lasts about 3 months!) The longer I tell myself no, the more I want it and eventually I will turn my small sliver into an ounce of fudge! I guess that's where the distance saying comes in....... I guess I either need to take my sliver and call it a day every day, or I need to find a better hiding spot!
What are some of your tactics for not tempting yourselves and overindulging? Especially when "Tis the season to make lots and lots of cookies" ?

I end up just working it off at the gym usually. I can't stop myself around these times!0

I have less than zero self control when it comes to certain things so I just purge them from the house and refuse to allow them back in. Doritos, pop (I'm from Chicago, it's right), pizza, microwaveable crap (hot pockets, totinos pizzarolls, tornadoes), and cookies (I can/could eat an entire pack of double stuft oreos in one sitting). Right when I started this journey I cleared my house of crap. I had a friend leave with 10+ bags of dried goods and random crap I didn't need in my house. I haven't brought any back yet. I ask my roomie nicely to keep his crap food hidden in his room and he's nice enough to oblige.
So my tip, get it all the heck out of the house, no temptation, no cheating on the diet.0 -
I plan EVERY meal, EVERY bite and no deviating. When it's party time, I eat before the party and bring my own food. I step away for a few minutes and go eat in my car so no one gives me crap about it. Then i go back in and enjoy the party with everyone else.0

I know what I'm going to eat ahead of time, and stop when I'm done. If I want something, I fit it in. If I can't fit it in, I don't eat it.0

I love to cook, I give it all away but a small bit for myself.0

I have that problem a lot too and, for me, it's really all about will power and re-training myself. When I really want a cookie, I have a bite of one then either save the rest for another day or give it to someone else who can afford to eat it. A little bite might not seem satisfactory but if you have a bite of your favorite treat once a day, you won't miss it as much, your taste buds are happy for that moment of craving, and you know that you will have that delicious treat to look forward to tomorrow. Took me a little while to train myself to do this and at times I slip up but I do my best and it's helped cut down the calories a LOT.
One trick I use is chocolate, I love chocolate so I keep little pieces around the house. I eat one, maybe two little pieces and then move on. I've also trained myself to not care for certain treats. I can live without vanilla wafers and cheese its. I guess one day I just ate too much of these things to where they just stopped satisfying me or I just rarely had them that not having them another day was not sweat off my brow. Just another little tip.0 -

If I deny myself, I'll just eat more later. So, I give myself a small/normal sized piece and walk away.0

Out of Sight, Out of Mind. If I am going to splurge, I buy a small serving of it and it is a one time thing. Fun Size candy bar, 1 service size of Chips, etc.0

I am a more out of sight..out of mind kind of gal. Cause if its there..and others are partaking..makes me want to get into the act. Its easier when its not the holidays..but being the holidays..I want to join in the festivities...
I think for me..once january hits..it will be a different story...I will probably stay straight...stray for Valenties..go strict..and stray when we go to Hawaii in March..
So they are more planned bumps in the road..which is fine by me..0 -
I also love to cook/bake ... The way I handle the temptation is to give half away, then I portion out the rest . So that way, when I do decide to have a treat is already cut to the appropriate amount (I can't gorge)0

If it's in my mind and in my site, it's on.... If it's in my mind but not in my site, generally the want will go away :huh:0

I just eat it. I'm pretty much at goal weight, and not too troubled by my dietary habits. I naturally gravitate toward healthy foods and clean eating, so an occasional treat is no big deal for me.0
