Are we the worst critics?

I remember someone saying once that ex-smokers are often the most judgemental of current smokers, and am starting to think the same holds true for ex-overweight people too?

This is NOT meant to be a whiney thread about mean people...but just wondering if anyone who has reached their goal, or lost a significant amount of weight finds that they tend to feel more judgemental toward those still struggling with theirs (or have you been on the receiving end)? I see a lot of comments on the boards where people are either a) trying to deliver 'tough love', or b) just have a major superiority complex....

Over the years, I've seen people who lost a lot of weight go through huge (not-so-nice) personality changes, but am curious to hear other people's opinions about this.

    Interesting question.

I once heard Janice ****inson on tv berating a young "plus size" model and then went on to talk about how hard she's had to work all her life to stay thin.

When I see bigger sized people, I try to imagine that they may have already lost 100 pounds and are well on their way and I root them on! Or maybe they're about to make a change! Or not, but you just never know where people are at.

Same thing with slim people... I try to imagine that they have had to work just as hard as me or harder to get that way! Maybe they were overweight a couple years ago! That helps me not to shut them out with jealousy.

I love that...there was a girl at my gym who I wanted to strangle every time I saw her (perfect little Barbie) and I actually ended up becoming friends with her at some point and found out she has to work very, very hard to stay thin, and she's actually one of the few non-MFP people who was a huge motivator in my recently weight loss, so I guess we shouldn't ever judge people unless we know their situation.
