I've been strictly doing p90x schedule since july, which is ab ripper every other day minus recovery week. My waistline has become thicker and muscle has definitely built up. At 1st I like what results I was receiving (more ab definition and trimmer waist) now my waist has expanded with muscles. Would you suggest cutting back on ab ripper to slim the waistline and cont with the regular schedule or is that going to do damage doing that??? I want my tiny waist back!!

i too have noticed my waistline getting bigger....my abs are more defined for sure but its hard to get past that waistline. i would imagine the only way to stop that is to quit on building that area up BUT i ahve no idea...so lets see what others say.0

Just work those sholders and lats harder so your waist looks smaller by comparison0

Or do it once a week. Ab Ripper X is a great ab workout but once a week should keep you tight without packing on too much muscle, especially if you are doing other workouts during the week that work the core.0

Ab Ripper and any floor ab workouts will strengthen your abdominal muscles. You have to do twisting ab workouts to shrink your waist. If you want to do an abdominal workout that will help shrink your waist try Tae Bo Insane Abs. Billy explains that abs starts in the kitchen, twisting abs workouts slims the waist and abdominal floor workouts strengthen the abs.

I would keep it up for a while to really develop the lean muscle tissue and plus it will help keep your back strong. I used to work out my abs like x3-x4 a week for the first 2 or 3 years and now I just do them once a week and all is good.0

This is a concern of mine as well....0

I agree with this suggestion, more or less. From what I understand, if you work out your back, it will improve your posture and make your waist appear smaller.0 -
I do targeted ab work very infrequently and generally stick to planks and some stabalizer ball work. Any of the compound lifts will also work core so as long as you remain lean, your muscle definition will be there but you shouldn't be increasing in your waistband. The ab ripper is a great workout that I'll do occasionally, but not at the frequency the P90X program recommends.0
