right ive always been a good sleeper, i used to sleep up to about 14 hours a night last couple of years. I would feel really tired about 10pm and would sleep right through untill after lunch 12pm the next day! =/ since about summer this year me and my mum have both noticed that im not tired untill after midnight, and im wide awake around 3-4am, where i will get straight out of bed, get dressed n go downstairs and have breakfast and stuff =/ just seems weird how i was always in bed sleeping my head off and now i cant sleep for no more than 6 hours, and im just never tired! I dont know what is causing this, i was never stressed in the summer, i am on a healthy balanced diet (i have my few bad days) but surely thats nothing to do with it.. Was thinking of taking sleeping tablets, but thats not a long term thing, i want to go to the doctors, but im pretty sure he will put me straight on sleeping tablets =/.. Would you say this is Insomnia? Or just something that will pass off soon =/

Thanks in advanced, i really appreciate it x

Get it under control now. I've been battling this for about 4 years and it only gets harder! Take anything electronic (Except for an alarm clock maybe) out of your room. Computers, cell phones and TV's are the worst distractions.

Insomnia is different for different people. I would talk to a doctor to get a professional opinion.

I agree, you should discuss your concerns with your dr.

On a personal note, I have a "winding down" routine that helps me relax before bed. Also, I take melatonin and that really helps.

Are you drinking soda or other caffeinated drinks after lunch? That can have a huge impact on your ability to get to sleep. Do you normally go to bed/get up @ the same time every day? I have to get up/go to bed at the same time everyday otherwise my sleep schedule gets all squirrely.

I've suffered with insomnia for years. Every once in a while it tries to sneak up on me. Talk with your doctor to see what he or she wants you to do.

    How late do you exercise?

And it varies what time i wake up, some mornings im up at 2am, or 3am, and a few other days im awake at 6am. =/

I get that way when I over train for a few days - can't sleep.
I take a rest day, then all is well again.

I would make up a nice pre-sleep routine (warm shower/bath before bed, journaling, have some Chamomile tea, etc...). It's a matter of putting yourself into a routine.

For awhile I had to ONLY sleep in my bed. I moved the TV out of my room, no journaling, no nada! It took me several months to get back to a regular sleep schedule, but I had other medical issues at the time. I also kept a food journal to track what I was eating/drinking to see if it was something I was consuming that was keeping me up.

Now that I have my insomnia under control (well to some degree), here is what my sleepytime routine is like:

7:00-7:30pm - Shower & lay clothes out for next day
    7:30-8:00pm - Evening Snack & TV Time
8:00-8:30pm - Tuck my puppies & daughter in

One thing that always makes me sleepy is hot cocoa. lol

Yes, see a doctor, but sounds like insomnia. I'm not exactly anti medication, however, to me it's a last resort. I was a chronic insomniac for a while, but I was lucky in that for me, regular exercise helped a ton.

Try melatonin in the meantime, it's a naturally occuring substance in your body already, and it helps you sleep usually without side effects. I do NOT like "sleeping pills" if lifestyle changes don't work I always recommend either melatonin or benadryl

    Good luck
