Any former fat boys out there?

I'm just in need of a bit of motivation at the moment, and while I'm generally travelling ok, I'm going through that point in time where I'm struggling to picturemy eng state or 'finished product'.

I know we have a lot of people on here who have been fit/slim in the past and have re-discovered their former glory, but sadly I am not in this situation. I have always been overweight, I struggled with health problems as a kid and have always been the 'funny' guy with the great personality... I say screw that, I want to be the hot guy!

I'd really love to hear from guys who have been in a similar position, who had always been overwieght and have struggled to picture themselves any other way.. but have pushed through these doubts and uncertainties and are now at a state they are happy with (or are almost there).

Yes this is a selfish thread to give me some support, but I am sure there are many others out there who are trying to come to terms with the psychological shift from what they have known their whole lives...

When I travel, I do exercise in the room while I watch TV.
I put the mattress on the floor and jog in place. I do calisthenics.

You can do likewise, and believe it when I say it.
    I was FAT

    F---Fatal
    A---Awful
    T---Terrible

So, I attacked the problem through diet and exercise - lost 64 lbs and all is well.

Now, it's time to take everything to a whole new level. In my life I have known optimal fitness, and as I push age 50, I want to not only reach that level again but maintain such health all the rest of my life.

Use your time to get in shape and transform your health.

*waves hand* Was always a bit overweight as a kid. Wasn't until I turned 24 that I realised things had gotten way out of hand (95kg @ 5'8"). Then got skinny 67kg. Now pretty happy but still looking to improve strength/body comp. (78kg)

You can see in my pics for the changes :)

You are one of my big inspirations on here Chris - I'd love to have your 'after' pics one day. When you were going through the process of slimming down did you ever have a concept of what you would look like in the end, or any doubts about whether it was actually attainable?

I have been fat for since I can remember, I was pushing 200 lbs in the 7th grade, ballooned literally up to 376.4 lbs and I am short to boot, I am now back down to my 7th grade weight, wearing it a lot better, but I still look at myself and see the fat guy it has gotten a little better because I am starting to see the beginning of abs forming at least the outline. I still got a ways to go, I have loose skin which isn't helping the matter, but it's slowly retracting, I lost the weight pretty fast 11 months to the date. What I do appreciate more is the fitness level, being able to run 6+ miles at a whack, getting addicted to exercise instead of sh!tty food. My mind completely changing my eating habits. The look in the mirror will come eventually. I got about 20 more lbs I would like to lose.

I weight in at 230lbs and lost 42lbs (as of today). I'm weighing in at 188 today and it's a whole new world. I have options open for me and I said the exact same thing that you said. "a kid and have always been the 'funny' guy with the great personality" Yeah screw that you want to be the guy women talk about  I'm still not used to weight and in my head it still feels like I'm my "fat self". But once you lose a certain amount of weight, goals become so much easier.

Add me and I'll support you!

I used to be pretty big. Pictures are in my profile. But yea, just takes time and patience. You'll stumble on the way, but that's unavoidable.

Thanks mate  When I was losing weight I think I was actually focussed too much on the scale rather than body composition. I actually did it a pretty bad way with lots of cardio & minimal strength training hence I became skinny fat. I had basic nutritional knowledge & had adequate protein the whole time. Had no idea what my end "look" was but I just thought that if I just kept losing weight that I would eventually get a six pack as I did already have a pretty strong core.

Turned out that, that's not the case  So over the next few years I have slowly put on weight as I have been doing heavy lifting & that has changed body composition drastically. Exercise choice is a vital part of the weight loss/body recomposition journey. Oh & I don't cut out cardio like lots of bodybuilder type dudes do. I still like to keep my fitness but these days my cardio consists of more high intensity stuff rather than the long 20+km runs that I used to do.

    Hope that helps

It sure does, and thanks everyone for the replies!

I'm currently working out 5 days a week (2 dedicated weight training days and 3 cardio/interval/light resistance training days). I think that makes my progress a little slower than if I were to smash the cardio really hard, but I hope the results will be there in the end...
