I have been searching and searching for multivitamins! Every time I took them I got very sick and just threw it all up. Then when i read the bottle closely I saw milk products were in it... in all of them! I am severly lactose intolerant so I guess that would make sense. But it was a lot harder for me to find ones that didn't contain milk or the proteins in milk (which was a whole issue in itself haha). BUT finally i found multivites from vitafusion. I have been taking them for about a week and I can see the difference in me already! What kind of vitamins do you guys take?

I take little pouches that contain a women's multi, omega's, vitamin C, vitamin D w/ calcium, a B complex, and chromium picolinate. My diet is deficient in calcium, iron, and potassium. This is still a little bit overkill, but I always thought the pouches were cool because my parents took them. Plus I like that it has 100% of everything, so in conjunction with my diet I'm getting proper nutrition even though I urinate some of the vitamins/minerals out.

I just checked, and mine are free of milk. They are called Nature's Bounty Prescriptive Formulas - Women's. I got them at Rite Aid.

Me neither. I pee most of it away and there has been some interesting articles in the NY Times recently about just how effective they are. I eat a good varied diet, plenty of vegetables. My BF is vegetarian (I'm not, I'd like to think I'm a lessatarian). We cook almost every night and are very aware of our diet.

I don't take any either, I've read way too much about how expensive your pee gets when you take them ... but if it makes you feel better (even if it's placebo), it's worth it!
  • I take women's once a day + omega 3.

I notice if I take it without eating an ENTIRE MEAL I throw up, and I'm not lactose intolerant. I guess I just have a sensitive stomach?

While you may urinate some of the vitamins/minerals out, you won't lose everything unless your diet supplies 100% of everything you need. However, in a caloric deficit, that probably won't happen. The way nutrient absorption works is:

Nutrients are absorbed in your intestines.
They travel in the blood stream to the liver and kidneys, where blood solute levels are monitored.
The body 'communicates' with the kidneys and other organs to determine what is needed--more calcium, less sodium, more potassium, etc.
Blood travels through little tubes in the kidneys, and little stuff is filtered out (everything but red blood cells and protein).
Good things are absorbed back into tiny blood vessels that surround the tubes.
Bad/excess stuff travels all the way through the tubes and out of the body in the urine.

So if you're deficient, your body will take in what it needs and gets rid of the rest. It's not a total waste if you're in a caloric deficit or just have trouble getting all your vits/mins in, IMO.

I take a generic (CVS brand) version of One-a-Day Womens multivitamin. It does not appear to have any milk products or derivatives in it. I also take a generic calcium citrate supplement as I am also severly lactose intolerant.

What brands are you using that do have milk products and what are the products?

I've only seen milk products in some of the calcium supplements like Viactin, etc..

    Interesting.. jb
